still reaching for that brass ring
I fished this Borso from the bay a few weeks ago. It returned yesterday from a trip to Chicago for a clean and reblock and resize. It didn't clean up as nice as I hoped it would, but it'll make a good hat for weekend casual wear. The felt is Borso soft and thin, and the hat feels great to wear.
The felt looks tan in the pictures, but it's a taupish gray color with a light gray ribbon and binding. You can see the moth divit in the last picture. This is the first hat I've ever bought that had any moth damage at all, and that one bite is the only one on the hat. I'm thinking it kind of lends a bit of character to the lid.

I did not see an intro thread, so I hope that this is acceptable. I submit for your approval and admittance into the Brotherhood. I know nothing of the hat other than it is a Borsolino and it is green, any info is greatly appreciated! This is my first quality hat, I picked it up at the Portland Antique show a few weeks back, for what I thought was a good price. I have been wearing a safari style for a number of years, as well as 2 outback styles, and various flat hats as well. The hat band is coming loose at the front and needs resewn, does anyone know of a repair shop in the Vancouver/Portland area? I do recognize a few names from some of the shaving and pen forums that I visit, so I know the company is good!

Make your own intro thread for yourself. Welcome.

While on a day trip to Beacon, NY to visit the Dia museum, my wife and I took a stroll around town. We went inside a couple of antique shops as I was hopeful to find a hat. And a hat I found. I've been looking for an unlined hat to wear in spring and fall. I wanted a playboy but found this rather large 6 7/8Borsalino (I'm a 71/8 but it almost fit me perfectly.A few hours in the hat jack and some steam did the job of a comfortable fit) .
I have never seen one like this and I hope someone here can shed some light about its age and style. To me it somehow looks like an Alessandria because of the bound brim edge but the ribbon seems too thick for that style and it doesn't match the brim binding. Also it has a wind trolley that matches the color of the hat and not the ribbon. The felt is very thin, almost as thin as my Vagabond: one of those that the slightest touch will mess up the crease. No liner (yay!) but a tip sticker made of cloth. The tag says "Ontano" for the color and a google translation gave me "tree, wood"Take a look and your help is appreciated.
Open crown and a bit lumpy befor I did anything to it.
Tip sticker and size tag.
Corrugated front sweat.
Inside tag.
Ribbon. It doesn't look like grossgrain, any ideas? It is attached to the felt by outside, top and long stitches.
After brush, steam and flange.
