Frankels, Des Moines??? I used to SHOP there!!!
Of course, that was the 80s. They no longer had anything this cool.

I'm wondering whether you passed up forest green non-Stetsons to wait for the holy grail.

Hey Fletch, I had forgotten that - but it happens I was born in Ames, IA just a few miles from Des Moines - possibly around the time this hat was sold there. Kismet, perhaps?

I've been hunting for a green fedora in a tasteful color for some time - really wouldn't have cared if it were any number of different brands, as long as it was a decent quality piece. I have seen more that are on the olive side of green, but although this is a more pure color, it's dark enough that I think it will work. As all of you know, it is not easy to find decent quality hats in green felt of any color variation.

I work at Colorado State University where the colors are green and gold, so I wear a lot of olive, khaki and earth-tone clothing, especially on days around big games and alumni activities. I've always thought that a tasteful green hat would be handy, but NOT a bright color that would make me look like a wanna-be Notre Dame leprechaun.:fedora:

I lived in Ames 19 years. My family still has a house there and we still go back on occasion.

Last time I returned I learned that Younkers' downtown DSM store went the way of all flagship retailers. I was very sad - my great-aunt worked there in 1918 or so when it was Younker Brothers. I got my first pair of glasses on the mezzanine at age 7 and looked down on the big main floor with its 1939 Electric Stairs. It looked acres big and I could SEE EVERYTHING.

All gone now. In fact Younkers will just become Macy*s, another superconglomerate. Tsk tsk...
