    Cordovan!

Hi all, this is my first post as a new member here, so expect some atleast semi-dumb questions hehe..

My wife has been looking at aeroleather jackets. Now she loves the Cordovan colour, however she doesnt want Heavy Hide. Sadly, although aeroleather do Mid Weight Jacket Hides, they dont do any in Cordovan colour!

So I am looking for a quality jacket producer that uses mid/light weight leather in the Cordovan colour. Style is not so important at this stage.

Or is there some practical reason why Cordovan has to be Heavy Hide? maybe something to do with the tanning?

I myself have bought a Seal Brown Highwayman Mid/Weight Horse-hide which I wont see until next year now...Grrr.. but I will post pics when it arrives.

Genuine cordovan (properly called "shell cordovan") is a kind of horsehide – what I mean is, it's only made from one part of horsey. And that part's nowhere near big enough for jackets. What it is is unusually tough and shine-friendly (which is why the U.S. Marines - for whom "tough" and "shiny" are near religious values - used it for their dress boot for many years.)

Leather can be tanned any color, of course, but there doesn't seem to be much of a taste for a deep maroon jacket. However, there may be one out there – and I would say, more likely made for a woman than a man!

    not the material

Hi Fletch, I hear what you are saying, but Im talking about a colour here, not the shell cordovan material. If you look at aeroleatherclothing you will see that they make FQHH jackets in many different colours. One of which is called Cordovan, and it is a dark brown with subtle undertones of red/purple. Its the colour I am interested in; problem is I dont want it in Heavy (FQ) Hide.
