It was a lovely movie - someone else on the FL had recommended it so I'm glad I got a chance to watch it.

Hey, I love it too. Sure, it's essentially romantic drivel. But it's very effective romantic drivel, and the leads are so gorgeous! And John Barry's moving Rachmaninoff-based score helps it enormously.

Besides, anything based on the writings of Richard Matheson is worth seeing. (Look him up: you'll be amazed how many great SF/fantasy projects he's responsible for - several wonderful Twilight Zone episodes, The Incredible Shrinking Man, I Am Legend/The Omega Man, the Roger Corman Poe films, Spielberg's Duel, etc.)

You can't beat a bit of romantic drivel from time to time - I would take that any day over those ghastly RomComs that Hollywood spews out these days.

And you are right about the leads in the movie - they were so incredibly gorgeous!

I might have mentioned it once or twice around here but I am sure others have as well. It isn't complete romantic dreck like Love Story. That was just plain unwatchable.
It had a Bond Girl in it so it can't be totally bad.
People think they are so rebellious and original, when really they are just banal, boring and dumb.

You know it's got to be drivel if it has Algore's fingerprints all over it. Barely noticeable in Somewhere in Time is Tim Kazurinski (SCTV, SNL, and the Police Academy movies) as the 1912 photographer who takes the photograph of Jane Seymour.
