Thanks for the visual! I always thought of trooper hats as having the triple-dent crease, but I guess this one's older? And the grosgrain ribbon kind of threw me, too.

If you google trooper hats, you will see center dent styles like yours, Mountie styles (or Smokey Bear), Cowboy styles, Straw or felt (may depend on the season), colors in black, blue, green, gray, tan. Depends on the state. Most will have a grosgrain ribbon, medium width. There was a surplus for sale on Ebay about a month ago, most of those were Smokey Bear style, or center dent.

I thought about bidding on that Spectator as well, thinking that my grandson might wear it in a few years. Then I considered that perhaps whomever had put in the first bid might actually be able to wear it, and opted not to go for it.

Hey Tom, when you really like a hat, you can rationalize anything. My gf has a tiny head and would have looked great in that hat! Sometimes I wish I had a little head.
