I love the word "pocketbook!" It was the very first word I learned to say in English when I came to America in 1965 from Cuba. I was not quite four years old and my wonderful Great-Uncle Harold and Great-Aunt Enid gave me a little red "pocketbook" as a gift. I learned the word and then when I saw them again I said pocketbook and kept saying it - they didn't buy me anymore but realized I just wanted more PRESENTS!

    Spoil them early

I loved your story Inky that was really sweet!!

My mother, born and raised in NY with a West Indian mother always pronounced it "pocabook" and it took me years to figure out that she was saying pocketbook. I just call it a purse.
