    You lucky dog.

I am glad that it will be at least in the family.

A Resistol man I am not sure of, however I am 100% sure that Bogie was a size 7. They did make some fine lids back in those days.

    Bogart size 7?

Was that before or AFTER he went bald? How do you know this 100% sure? The line in "Dark Passage" where Bacall's character is buying him clothes to replace the ones he threw down the incinerator?

You may be right...the majority of heads back then were smaller hat size wise.

And ...most articles I have read state that men's average size in 1940 was 5 ft 09 in and about 140 Lbs..

This is "average".. we are shaped differently and "fatter". due to the poor sedentary lifestyles of over eating and watching TV.

    speaking of Resistol...

I just finally received an old Resistol fedora today, which I had originally intended to use as a 'beater' hat - but I actually think it's in much, much better shape than it looked in the auction (how often does that happen?). The sweatband, in particular, is one of the most comfy I've ever owned.

Andy, any suggestions on cleaning the sucker with Naptha? (I mean, like, is there any preparation or anything necessary?)

    It all depends..

If the hat is dirty overall, then a good soak in Naptha is in order, with a brushing first of course.

If there are some spots, then you terry cloth and naptha those areas. If you discover that they look better than the rest of the hat, because years of dirt are removed along with the spot, then SEND IT OUT to have cleaned. I don't know what you spent on the hat, but a $25 cleaning may make it look like a gem.
