I may have a great hat, but I don't let it go to my head.
I think reverse taper is more of a condition achieved through creating a deeper crease in any tall-enough/straight enough crowned hat. A hat would normally be blocked with no more than straight sides.
Even my Akubra Federation has reverse taper, due to the way I dented it.
A tall crowned, straight sided hat is needed.
I don't believe "reverse taper" is usually engineered into a hat.

huh... wouldn't that be a shallower crease if that's the way it is achieved?![]()

I think BT has it right. Hat were probably blocked with no more than straight sides. A center crease generally gives that reverse taper profile.
Push the crown centre down, the crease/dent becomes deeper, the crown itself becomes shorter, reverse taper happens now. Look at the profile.
Try it on one of yer hats. It's easier to do/see with a centre crease, a fore/aft crease.
Are we talking about the same thing?

I believe we are, yes! I will give it a try.... would that also affect the front and back angles of the crown?Originally Posted by BellyTank

If you get reverse taper, apparent from the side, it will, effectively add positive taper to the frontal aspect- all dependent on what you start with(proportion and aspect) and what you do.
A crease(long), as opposed to a dent(round) will give the most obvious reverse taper. A "dent" will tend to "fill out" the hat from all angles. If you see what I mean.
Doing goes a lot further than talking!
