Thanks. I didn't recognize the title or name but when I found it on youtube I immediately recognized it. Like many of my generation I associate it with Fantasia because that's the first time I heard it.

Now I've checked different versions of it, some faster but this is how I'm used to hearing it.

    Yes! That's phenomenal.

There's probably a certain repertoire we can mostly take for granted--Karajan / BPH thundering through Mozart, Van Cliburn's Rachy Piano Concerto, etc; I'd add to that William Byrd's masses, particularly the Catholic 4- and 5-voice (profound even to a crotchety old atheist like me), Smetana's Ma Vlast, and Elgar's Cello Concerto. Never quite found a recording of that that got it like I like it though.

Ha I didn't realize that piece was in a film. I've never seen the Fantasia films.

Lots of bumping old threads here, so I will bring this over from Club Cad.

Set it up on the computer. Hit the lights. Take off your glasses. Kick off your slippers, slide into bed. Covers up around your chin. Settle in. Hit "play." Night, night, babies.

Can someone please help me identify a classical piece of music?

It's a piano piece. I believe it was composed by Chopin. It's a slow, sad piano solo, it sounds kinda tragic and creepy and it's one of his more famous compositions. Does anyone know any of his pieces that might fit the bill?
...Where did you get that hat, where did you get that tile? Isn't it a nobby one and just the proper style! I should like to have one just the same as that. Whereever I go they'd shout "hello, where did you get that hat?..."

A couple selections from my favorite tenor:

Au Fond du Temple Saint, from The Pearl Fishers by Bizet

    The Bach-Gounod Ave Maria

And here is the most dramatic bit of music ever written (especially the big allargando right near the end)

I love the Russian composers, strong and passionate music. Personal Favorites are Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky.
