ladies:GREAT 1942 film for clothes, hairdos, hats

Last night I was watching for the second time "You Were Never Lovelier" with Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth. The costumer was Irene. The movie has four sisters and two older ladies as the main players.

This film is a great sampling of early 40's hairdos shown on younger gals, older classy ladies and those in between!

The women's costumes are all gorgeous, not just Rita's. The two younger sisters had really fun outfits, and the Godmother friend had on terrific suits and evening wear!

Look for the Godmother's TILT hat in one scene and Rita's big flat one in another.

I'm going to go through this movie for 1940's ideas again and again. Highly recommended!

Fred, Xavier Cugat and the character actor portraying Rita's father looked pretty sharp too!
    "Baby, you've arrived."

I love especially one of the dresses Rita wears when dancing with Fred Astaire in the garden, I think. Long evening gown with illusion netting, if I remember correctly. Irene made lovely clothes.

    Do you mean this dress?

It's lovely. I was trying to figure out if rita had any foundation garments on underneath the dress, because it looks so "nude." I love how suggestive the gown is without actually revealing anything.

Another Rita Hayworth movie with amazing clothing is Cover Girl. the tilt hats and suits are to die for. It's also in technicolor, the color combos in some of the outfits are divine.

Yes, that's it! I saw it for the first time on TCM a while back and fell in love with it!

My husband noticed that gown as well.

Rita also wore some lovely nude illusion negligees in You Were Never Lovlier. That seemed to be a theme throughout her wardrobe in the movie.

The clothing that Rita wears in You'll Never Get Rich (the other movie she did with Astaire) is also noteworthy.

Not nearly as gorgeous as the dresses Irene made for You Were Never Lovlier, but still very nice.

Let's face it - I think Rita could make just about anything look amazing.

That was the other Rita film we had started to see...

when the nitrate film caught fire, and they cleared the theater! We only caught the first 5 minutes of "Cover Girl". Darn...

I'd seen it before, but didn't pay much attention to the ladies wardrobe then.
