Here is an old photo that I got in some things from my great aunt's house a number of years ago. I've about gone blind trying to pick out a face that matches one of my ancestors, but so far I haven't found one. The photo has no markings, except for the photographer's embossed name "J.M. McCanless, 7 & 9 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC." I would, therefore, assume the photo was taken in Asheville, NC. Doing a bit of research on the photographer, he used the address listed between 1896 and 1897, which looks about right for the subjects in the photo.
They all appear to have some kind of name tag or badge of some sort on, so I would think the occasion may have been some kind of convention?
Anyone care to venture a guess? Any of you good people from the Asheville, NC area recognize the building?
