    Such a deal ...

Should your hat size be somewhere in the vicinity of 7 1/8, and should you be in search of a high-quality vintage Whippet-esque hat, and if you haven't perused the FL classifieds lately, check out this, from our own frussell ...

A new sweatband in this thing and you have one fine lid, Sid.

My crystal ball is on the blink, so I'm just guessing that prices on vintage attire and such are now about as low as they're likely to go. I see hats such as this one, which might easily have fetched 150 or 200 clams a coupla-three years ago, priced at less than 50, shipping included, and I'm tempted to go on a buying spree myself. But I already have more hats than I'll ever wear, and I'm not in the vintage hat reselling business. But then ...

Is this a new thing; hyping a classifieds listing in the general forum.

    Not to my knowledge.

Me, I've never sold a thing on the FL classifieds. And I ain't got so much as a nickel's interest in this deal.

The FL classifieds is a great resource for the members here -- a place for sellers and buyers with similar interests to make deals. And these generally down times (economically) are apparently good times to buy up such things. That's worthy of comment, in my view, and this deal, as well as the deals Garrett offered recently, support that contention quite clearly.

Your tone leaves the impression that you find it objectionable.

EDIT: On further reflection I recall that I did indeed sell three stingy brims through the FL classifieds, some years ago now. Sal in Illinois bought 'em. He was happy to have them, and I was happy that he was happy, and for the scratch it put in my pocket.

I don't know about objectionable; let's say questionable. The other forums that I visit that have classifieds would not allow this type of thread in the general forum. What they do allow though is for members who have items for sale in the classifieds to put a link to the sale in their sig. But if you asked me if I wanted the general forum mucked up with threads hawking items already listed in the classifieds....I'd say probably not. Oops, maybe I do object...

Thanks for the reference. I looked at the hat--a nice one--and would have been in the market for it had I not bought a vintage Borsalino last summer of about the same color and brim size. Sizewise and otherwise, though, it was definitely in my strike zone.
