European Hat Sizing

Does anyone know if a hat size 4 1/2 is indicative of an earlier form of European hat sizing? Are any charts available?

Thanks guys, that tells me I'm not gonna bid on this great looking fedora. I'm a 7 5/8, and that's too big a stretch.
