Great cap Alan. Is Buffalo a good or bad place to photograph the sun? Where is the place on the globe you would love to set up Little Big Man?

    Manfred, Rusty - thank you!

Ed - thanks for your note. Buffalo is not known as a mecca for astronomy... but the proximity to my equipment is excellent. Many solar observatories are built near water. This helps to minimize the turbulence caused by the radiation of stored heat into the atmosphere.

I hope to make a return visit to Mount Wilson Observatory to photograph the transit of Venus in front of the sun on June 5th. Little Big Man will ride on the plane with me. This site, just 18 miles east of Los Angeles, was selected after much study for its superb astronomical "seeing". It is also clear there much of the year. The light glow from L.A. is not a problem for the work I do.

Alan, I am sure that Hawaii would work also. Thanks I would think latitude and longitude of Buffalo, NY,
42° 53' N/ 78° 52' W. would be not as ideal. But with your equipment so close it helps.

I have some friends headed to Hawaii... longer transit, but clear skies are iffier there. Plus I might have a chance to play with the 60" again at Mount Wilson. No chance for amateurs to play with the big telescopes on the big island.

Buffalo is a couple of marks underneath ideal... but better than Syracuse.

I was going to say something about Batavia then thought better of it. Some of my favorite Lounge hats hail from Batavia.
