Most Depressing movies you've seen?

Didn't see the movie but read the original book that the film was based on and that was enough for me.

The book is being reissued in the next while and it's on my to read list.

The Notebook. Watched it with my wife. She loves it. I don't.
Iris. Pretty much for the same reasons as being depressed by the Notebook.

Oh, also, About Schmidt was super depressing too. Some people I know thought it was a black comedy, so maybe I didn't get it.

Idocracy---it is truly funny but in a depressing way about the future of our world.
Caution---some strong language. Mostly disturbing predictions of our future though:

The Big Parade (1925). Although it has a cheesy tacked-on happy ending, the whole rest of the film was depressing for the most part. I thought about that film for DAYS after I first watched it. Then I made my husband watch it. Years later he could not recall if it was silent or a talkie (because it was so good!)

I absolutely agree with you. I laughed the whole way through, then, when it was over, I had a rather depressing realization that, all things going how they are, the future depicted isn't exactly too far-fetched! Great film though. "It's got what plants crave!"

A Scanner Darkly is one of the foremost on my mind that qualifies for the "Most Depressing Movies" list.

Badly made films depress me no end. Other than that, the only time I find a film depressing is when it's boring. And when a film bores me, I leave. Any film that is a "slice of life" picture I know will bore me, so I don't even bother with them. It's truly amazing how many crap movies one can avoid by asking the simple question: "Does it have a beginning, middle, and end-- preferably in that order?"
