Decorating a WW2 themed room.

Yes, it'll be a novelty theme room more than a reproduction of an era room. Like I said, the centerpiece is going to be a wargaming table.

I like the idea of the taped X's on the windows, also thinking about using OD canvas as window treatments sort of like tent flaps rolled up.

Hang cammo netting from the ceiling, and make crude furniture from 2x4s and plywood. Get some surplus from ebay, and you are good to go...

Let's see. I would suggest posters, Betty Grable pinups, or maybe some nice paintings of WW2 era planes like the Spitfire or Mustang. Um...flags in the corner. Maybe a nice shadow box with WW2 era squadron / unit patches. You might want to see if you can find a reporduction WW2 era telephone for the room. I'd probably invest in some reproduction era tables / chairs and furniture. Perhaps a bar with nice war theme glassware. Perhaps old movie posters or pictures of the stars of that era. I like the old recruiting posters of the era and reproductions can be found I'm sure.

You really should think about getting a reproduction radio. Crossly and emerson makes some pretty cool ones that can play cds too.

Do you smoke? A vintage lighter and cigar box might be neat. Heck I dont smoke and I'd get one anyway.

I've got a nice pencil sketch of a P-47 my ex-roomie brought me back from Hawaii. I need to look for some of the old recruiting posters, those would be cool. Going to definately have the flags in the room. I'm thinking flanking either side of a large map of WWII Europe with little flag markers stuck in it.

Oh yeah, that would be cool! Re the reproduction radio. I mentioned getting a reproduction but I just happened to think, there are vintage radios out there in cyberland that can be bought...that still work.

I took these photos at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Museum, they may give you some ideas.

This was some of the stuff they had from the period. Daily stuff from the officer's quarters. Radio room stuff, ect.

Try some wall stickers that represent what you're looking for - that way you can change them up when you want without having to repaint. I recently bought some wall decals from a site called WallPops, although I'm not sure if they have anything specifically WW2 related. Check Amazon as well.

You can get repro recruiting & other war-era propaganda posters pretty cheap (like $5-$10) at most surplus stores. If you're ever in Fort Worth, Omaha Surplus on White Settlement Road sells them. Half Price Books sells reproductions of war-era posters as metal signs for around $8. Footlockers can be found cheap at garage sales & on Craigslist.

You need something that reeks of creosote to get the full aromatherapy experience though.

I'm going to share a link from another forum I'm a member of. Yes this is WW1 theme, but it is pretty amazing. Probably slightly more detailed than what you're looking for, though!

Well holy cow, I have an ironing board like that. Apparently it was my grandmother's even though I don't remember either one ironing. My Mom is especially big on Permanent Pressed clothing. Sorry, but I'm still in an apartment and will probably more some more in the next few years, but at least I have a start.

Just curious. What kind of 'wargaming' WWII era? Stalingrad, Okinawa etc? Do you know any decent modellers who could make some 1/72 aeroplanes like fighters or bombers to hang from the ceiling?
