    Remains recovered from WWII Catalina

Interesting article on the Toronto Star's website today.

I'm glad that when remains are found in situations like this, they are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Simply fascinating, not to sound morbid, but I wonder how much of the remains are still intake after all of these years. With the environment that they were in, would it be safe to say they were well preserved?

It is great that they were able to find these men and will be able to bring them home for a proper burial and closure for their families.

Good to see them recovered and an interesting article. There is a Catalina wreck about 2 miles from me, it flooded and sank on its mooring in '44. I spoke a couple of years ago to one of the first divers who rediscovered it back in the 60's. He told me at that poin it was mainly intact, cockpit had been recovered after sinking by Navy divers but everything else was there. The main wing had collapsed on one side due to engine weight but he remembered swimming in through a blister and up through the hull. All the liferafts were still in the overhead racks and the crew parachutes still at their positions, reaasonably intact. Now due to anchors and inshore trawling it is just scattered aluminium debris.
