Here in the U.S.A., it was first "revived" in the later '70s within the gay community. Then came the movie Animal House, Lisa Birnbach's The Complete Preppy Handbook, the election of Ronald Reagan ...

The funny thing is, the preppy look never went away in other countries. Upper-class men and women in India, Brazil, South Africa, France, Honduras, etc. still go around wearing polo shirts with logos, and penny loafers without socks.

Looks to me like you can choose, at least between palm trees, understated sailing boats or, this year's most common design - spotted by Apparel Arts at Palm Beach from June until early August - yes, you got it ... the fiddler crab. Classy.
