Beach Acrobats of 1930's Australia

The lost art of 'Beachobatics'

Bondi resident George Caddy was best known for his success as a jitterbug dancer. But it's these posthumously discovered photographs of 1930s 'Beachobatics' that's got Alan Davies from the State Library of NSW jumping for joy.

Beautiful people! Thank you for sharing.

I think it is simply extraordinary how these images suddenly surfaced so many years after they were taken.

I wonder how many treasures like this one are still out there, hidden in attics, cellars, forgotten boxes... It's still happening with paintings now and then, a masterpiece lost and found. Simply amazing!

Lovely photographs. I think people were a lot more acrobatic back then. My grandmother used to do these kind of things and my granfather could stand on his head till he was 70. It's a childish way of fun. I adore that atmosphere!
