James Ellroy is in Belfast tomorrow night!
![]() The reason I know is that he is doing a radio interview here and I thought he may have been in Dublin. Alas I found out he's doing it via link from London. I would kill to get to go to a reading - I believe he is quite entertaining. Especially since Lt. Dudley Smith of L.A. Confidential is "Dublin-born". Also, "Dudley Smith" himself sat in my Buick when he was here in Dublin: ![]() UPDATE: ELLROY's in Belfast tomorrow night - I'm going up! Full report will be submitted here - so stay tooned.... ![]()

That's correct SC, I bought the book there and got Ellroy to inscribe it with a personal note to my son. The note says "you're Leland because of me". I had explained to him that my son's middle name was "Leland" because I loved the character Leland "Buzz" Meeks. Here are the to of us: ![]()

LOL, I got several laughs out of that one. One of my favorite movie Meeks-isms: "Get lost, why don't ya?!"

Looking sharp there Brian!! Did anyone else get 'dolled up' in a Fedora there at the Waterfront?
Just wish I'd been there!! Lucky dog!

There was a rockabilly band playing there afterwards, some of them had pleather fedoras! None of the noir fans had fedoras though... that is, apart from me! I posted the above picture on Ellroy's facebook page and he commented on it, which I believe is quite unusual. I had a blast! ![]()

I met Ellroy at the San Francisco Film Noir Festival, it was the highlight of my day. I walked up to him and shook his hand and said, "Thanks for writing my favorite books". He smiled and thanked me back. The whole handshake and conversation lasted less then 30 seconds, but it was awesome. Class act guy.
