...SNIP more great stuff...

Joan Blondell, my heroine...AND Lili Damita! It was bad enough I missed all those Thelma Todd two-reelers recently, now this! ...I'm going to have to move back to suburbia just so I can get decent cable again.

I adore Joan, too! All that sassy talk wins my heart everytime. I haven't seen anything with Lili yet, but she seems fascinating.
Hmmmm, I think I ran into only one of those Thelma shorts one night, but missed the rest! She was so sexy!! I want to be her.

Oh, man, I missed "Murder My Sweet" and the original "Maltese Falcon."
Has anyone seen the 1931 version?

I liked Bebe and Ricardo Cortez in it better than the later cast. Not to say I don't love Mary Astor, though, because I do! Can't really say the same for her male co-star, though.

Wow!

You think Ricardo was better than Bogie?!?!?

That is the first time I have heard someone say that. Bogart set the standard for gum shoes that all are measured by.

The warring Maltese Falcons

I've never seen the '31--is it Bebe Daniels in the Mary Astor role? Darn! Well, there is a new DVD being released with all 3 Maltese Falcon versions on it, according to alt.movies.silent. That definitely sounds like a must-buy.

I hadn't heard this, and I agree enthusiastically, that this is a must have.

Ahh, I didn't know this, either. But I haven't checked the posts on alt.movies.silent yet, so this is probably why!

TCM

I'm really getting into TCM, all these fine early actors and actresses, geez what a shame they are no longer around, great comments by all of you, you keep them all alive as TCM does, keep up the good work

Mmm, yes...[Hides face in semi-shame! ] Although I must admit I'm more partial to seeing Cortez as the jerk who is murdered by sexy pre-Code actresses rather than the "hero" type.

I know a few girls who are really big silent and early talkie fans who believe the same thing, hehe. I guess it just depends on your era of choice.

I strongly recommend...

We're Only Human (1936)
A cop, who plays by his own rules, brings down a notorious gangster.
Cast: Preston Foster, Jane Wyatt, James Gleason. Dir: James Flood. BW-69 mins, TV-PG

This one was great, lot's of "tough-guy" talk:

Preston Foster: "Do you mind if I sit down?"
Jane Wyatt: "I wouldn't mind if you fell over."

A real hat-flick, too.
