Show Us Your OVERCOATS

.

I've got this sneaking hunch that the Lounge's "Jackets" section is mostly seen by the WWII leather coat crowd. Therefore, if it's o.k. with the bartenders, may I start a non-WWII, non-leather coat thread here?

Below is my favorite overcoat. It's British, no label, and the construction and quality point toward the 1930s. A Donegal herringbone tweed -- dig those colorful flecks! Plain back.

----------

And here's one from a local Goodwill. From the later 1930s, I reckon. The wool has heathery variations of Fall colors, hard to pick up in the photos. It has the weight, density and slightly fuzzy texture of a horse blanket. Plain back, no half-belt.

-----------

To be continued ...

.

I just picked up four of them the other day. One is dated 1950. I'll get some pics.

Nice coats. I have a couple to post and also some other stuff. I need to get the time to take some pictures.
By the way, what's the difference between an overcoat, a topcoat and a greatcoat? Are they just different names for the same thing?

Interesting ... your polo coat has a collar that's more typically found on an Ulster coat. Like it!

Repeat post from the Powder Room thread

Look what I found!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I rarely go into this thrift shop, because it's picked over so much. But look what I found on my visit last week! The wool coat is in perfect condition and was $5!! The only thing I love more than the coat, is me wearing it!

<snipped non-overcoat comments>

Happy happy me.

I have a couple. Nothing fabulous like the other ones on here. None of them are very good pictures of them, either.

(me goofing around. Disregard the cane and tennis shoes)

Where can one purchase those 1930s style Donegals??? You never see those patterns at Magee of Donegal's site.

from OFAS...

I won this overcoat some time ago. It has a half belt. It also has a pocket with a small Talon zipper on the inside. There are no labels though. It's not super heavy but feels as though it will be very warm.

Wow-that's an incredible cut for a man's coat. Did you move the buttons or did it come like that?
