How about Ann Sheridan? She's one of my favorites!
And here's a color pic of Maureen: I've always loved red hair--one of these days I might try out a new color! ![]() |

I always thought Lucile Ball was a knockout. No one thinks of her except for her comedy.

She was gorgeous--and started out as a blonde! Her career took off when she dyed her hair red.

Love the collection. Is that a real autographed picture or just a photo of one?
and... Why is it that 40's women are so sexy in an evening gown, while our modern "Sexy" women have to dress so slutty to get our attention?

I'm loving all the suggestions.
Lucy has been a huge influence on me,she's definitely one of the reasons I love redheads. In fact,I identify with her the most.My hubby and I get Lucy and Ricky comments all the time and are always flattered. Still, always looking for new inspiration. This image is a repost, but you can see what I mean. By the way,I think other than red hair and a penchant for full skirts I don't think I look like her.Wish I had her eyes. Last edited by rubyredlocks : 08-20-2005 at 05:14 AM. |

When I was a wee thing during the late 40's and early 50's, Hollywood redheads were in, especially those with long red hair. Check out all those bible dramas that were made -- redheads, all the bad girls were redheads.
I was fascinated with redheads, here were two of them around at the time: http://www.100megsfree4.com/gogators...aywardHead.jpg http://www.thegoldenyears.org/hayworth.jpg http://www.marshasvintage.com/i/Glam...n_enlarged.jpg Rita was not a real redhead, but Greer was and I think Susie was, also. karol PS Much as I love red hair, I look horrible in it. I am a natural dark ash blonde and red hair does not suit my coloring. Oh, well, next incarnation.... kdl |

Looks like I blew it on Greer Garson, all those dots and dashes. Trying again:

How about Julianne Moore from "The End of the Affair"? Not exactly a vintage star, but she looked perfect in that movie and the costumes were stunning. The screenwriter, director, and producer sucked the soul out of Greene's masterpiece, but if you put the tv on mute about halfway through at least you get to watch Julianne and Ralph be gorgeous together without wanting to throw the television out the window.

So much inspiration,thanks ladies!
I love the choices and the pics, keep 'em coming.Wouldn't you love it if that style of photography made a comeback? I also love the fashion photography of the 40s/50s. Love the Ann-Margaret pic. That hair would do a 40s Veronica inspired do or 50s bouncy ponytail easily.I think it would take 2 or 3 years for me to get that much length, though. I loved Julianne's look in that movie. She looked so elegant. The 40s look good on her. Last edited by rubyredlocks : 09-12-2005 at 03:59 AM. |

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions ladies!
I am definitely feeling inspired. What I've really noticed is a lack of fringe in the forties.I've seen them in hairstyling books, but not on very many stars. |

I am starting a huge project in the new year and image is everything.(Which explains why I've been so obsessive)
The look needs to be creative and versatile, but still pretty. Thanks so much for your help ladies and your inspiring pics. They helped me decide. I am hoping that by the end of next year to have a style that resembles Rita Hayworth with a few adaptions.(I have a lot of growing to do) For the creative edge I am going with a red that has a 40's technicolor feel to it. Something like this: http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/4...6109AbOXLFk0bS Thanks again you have all inspired me so! xoxo, Ruby |

Ruby, is that you honey??
I love that color! It's fun and fresh without being over the top or too modern. It's just adorable...makes me wish I could go red myself ![]() |
