Need some help with Curlers/Hot Rollers for the GF!

Mom called them Curlers and the Girl Friend calls them Hot Rollers....at any rate the GF's birthday is coming up and I want to get her a set. Can someone recommend a good set for me? I'm outta my league on this one!

Hi Blackgrass --

My mother and I both have sets of hot rollers that come with a plastic clip that snaps on over the top. These aren't the best for doing vintage styles, as the rollers are too large to get a good "pincurled" look, the curls are always much too loose. For modern styles, they do a great job of giving the hair body and loose curl. They heat up fast and they're not expensive (I think my set cost 25-30 dollars at the drug store). I've also had great results from steam curlers -- they hold forever and have shine and bounce...the only drawback is that you can only heat one roller at a time. Eventually you get very good at it and if you have a girlfriend to help you it goes even faster. Check out Target.com for inexpensive sets. Ceramic rollers are The Next Big Thing (tm), apparently.

If you're going for a set that can give you a vintage style, I think many of the ladies here use something called Hot Stix (sticks?). I've never used them, but they've gotten very good reviews in other powder room threads.

Anyway, hope that's a little help -- the other ladies on here will definitely have better advice!

Yes, Hot Sticks work great. I've mainly seen them on ebay. They come in a travel size which I think has 14 sticks or a larger size (what I have) which has 20 sticks.

Hot Sticks are no longer made but I've seen Conair's Swizzlers on the market and they are probably just about the same thing and you can probably find these new in the stores:

Check Big Lots, if you have one of those stores near you. They had Swizzlers there for $9.99 once I believe.
