What?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìWonderful Life?¢‚Ǩ? of Halloween?
Hey folks. Looking a head to the end of this month for a movie to review for TIE. The question?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s come up?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ what are the 1930?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s and 1940?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s ?¢‚Ǩ?ìGolden Era Art-Deco?¢‚Ǩ? equivalent of ?¢‚Ǩ?ìIt?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a Wonderful Life?¢‚Ǩ?.
[?¢‚Ǩ?ìIt?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a Wonderful Life?¢‚Ǩ? is to Christmas as BLANK is to Halloween.] Any thoughts or ideas on an Indy-esqe flick for this season? Thought this would be the perfect sherbet to clean the palate before our next big subject.

LOL
How about Arsenic and Old Lace? Not very Indy-esque, but a great Halloween time flick, and one of Cary Grant's all-time funniest, IMO. Besides, can you get more "Halloween" than Peter Lorrie? It was also directed by Frank Capra (of It's a Wonderful Life fame). Mike |

Only the original. The remake was terrible, but then I'm old fashioned. (grins) Regards. Michaelson

LOL... Well Michaelson, I almost put "the original of course" in my posting, but I thought that didn't need to be said. Glad we are thinking along the same lines. |

You KNOW it , Bro. Sometimes, though, younger folks don't know there were originals to the remakes THEY'RE familiar with, so sometimes that little caveate helps. (grins) Of all the movies I saw when I was growing up, that original 'Thing' scared the pejabers out of me, and still holds it's own in my opinion for just plain spooky. Well done, well scripted, and well acted too. With all that said, I whole heartedly throw my vote behind YOUR recommendation...the original 'The Thing'! Regards. Michaelson

Excellent point and one I should have remembered. I have two sons (22 and 23) who have seen many a movie only to find out it was a remake. I too remember when I was a lad and saw that movie and I also remember jumping about 6' in the air when they opened the door and the Thing was standing on the other side and he swung his arm out at them. If I remember correctly (that DVD is on order with a couple of Al Jolson DVDs) there were some pretty good lines in the movie too. That being said, thanks for the vote!! |
