Those of you who live in the UK may be interested to know that Marks and Spencer (this isn't a joke!) does an excellently-shaped black wool felt fedora. Black grosgrain band, cloth sweatband and well-padded lining. It's also treated to be weatherproof.
Cost just £19.50.
In these very unusual days of snow in the UK, they make superb beaters and hold their shape well. In fact, I've just finished steaming and shaping mine to give the brim the right snap and lift at the back.
Not a vintage fur-felt work of art, but still worth a go! At that price you don't mind leaving them on our horrible modern characterless flourescent-lighted midget-sized train seats!
