Mary had a little lamb. What am I refering to?
Edison's first sound recording.
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!
Actually, the tale was supposedly cleand up for public consumption. According to Charles Edison, his father claimed that this (slightly) bawdy parody of the old hursery rhyme was the subject of the first recording: "Mary had a new Sheath Gown. It was too tight by half. Who gives a Damn for Mary's lamb when they can see her calf? HA! HA! HA!"
It's a little known fact that within a week of Edison making this recording, bootleg versions were all over YouTelegraph.
