DEADSTOCK 1930s fedora
This hat is a rare example from the golden era. From the blue heather finish felt, to the decorative crown stitching, this one has it all.
That hat was made for "GEO I. EAKLE" during the 1930s. The Eakle store was opened in 1910, and closed their doors in the early 1980s. This hat, and a few others were found stored in a barrel in the back of the old store by a vintage dealer in the 90s. After being held in stock for many years, another dealer purchased the entire Eakle hat lot, and here is one from the lot.
This is as close as you can get to owning a true time capsule.
Sadly, due to being stored in a barrel, the sweatband seam has torn, but the sweatband is extremely soft and has a ton of life left.
Asking other knowledgeable hat collectors, we are almost sure this was made by Stetson, as it bears Stetson LOT stamping on the backside of the sweatband (only spots that could point to Stetson are the lot stamping, and the tags), which could mean this hat was made privately for the EAKLE stores, but it also resembles early Lee and Stylepark hats.
Eakle was custom designing and ordering hats (I own a 1920s Schoble that reads "Designed by Eakle, Made by Schoble".
