Black Akubra Bogart

My most recent purchase, a Bogart in black. Main reason I bought this was because I wanted a black hat for a funeral. Don't usually wear black very much, but I'm enjoying the bogie so much I think my next hat will be another one in gray. This is how it was creased in the factory, and it's my only hat that I haven't rebashed at all.

The felt's very thin, and my camera's being very mean to the finish - it's a lot smoother and less dusty than it appears. After a month or so of wear it's softened up a fair bit, but still retains some stiffness, especially in the brim.

That looks alot better than the picture that usually shows it on akubra sites! I know what you mean about photographing black hats. I can't get a good one of mine either.

Heh, thanks. I was a little worried about how the black would come out - I share a house with a long-haired cat who's feverishly changing coats for the summer. Just getting it to look that good was quite a chore. :)

Coolabah

There haven't been too may real country styled hats in this thread so far, so I thought I'd share some pictures of my first hat, an Akubra Coolabah.

The brim's about as wide as it looks; 80mm, or about 3.125". It came with a fairly sharp downward curve in front and back which has gradually eased up over the years, but the brim's still stiff as a board. The band is made from crocodile skin.

I've very slowly worked the side dents a lot deeper and with a sharper pinch at the front, mostly due to mis-handling it and pinching the front of the crown. I realise now that that was a bad idea, but it has resulted in a crease that I really quite like. I've also recently done a little bit of work widening the centre crease.

This lid's been with me to outback Western Australia, and all over Sydney as well. That said, it's a little too small for me, so it sits higher than I'd like and tends to bind a little. I haven't really worn it for quite a while. Expect to see it pop up on ebay some time soon.

Stibbons...do those larger holes on the side make a difference in the heat...Do they allow the hat to breath better...If so...I've been contiplating the Territory as a future hat...

They do help a lot, yeah. I've worn this thing in 40 degree heat (um, around 105F) without major discomfort.

Here's a thread to keep up with all the Akubra's. Sort of a documentation to keep up with all the styles and actual pics of these wonderful lids perched on our heads. I borrowed the title from a post by Carter...:D
