My doctor has one of those! He swears by it. He won't use anything else to measure blood-pressure. He doesn't trust the modern newfangled "electric" machines because he says they have to be recalibrated every few months and it's a frustrating and unnecessary tag-along.

I just came across this thread and it got me thinking. When Milwaukee (WI) County Hospital closed down, I was able to claim a lot of their vintage office furniture for my office suite. I had a marketing/PR-type designer in my group and we staged a coup and rounded up all the 50's metal desks - the big grey rounded ones with typewriter drawers - that we could and the swivel chairs and file cabinets. It was great fun while it lasted, but soon it was our turn for the building to come down. It all went to the scrap pile. A sad day...

Tank desk - I never heard them called that.
