Why did you start your blog?
After getting seriously frustrated with people on my livejournal and a sudden attack of privito nesseso (needing to be private), I decided to start up my blogspot journal and focus just on the vintage side of my life.

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?
I mostly started it as a way to establish and define the "celebrity" side of myself (as a performer and personality). Posting only what I feel people really want to see of me and read about me and cut out all the personal whines and cries. I mean who really wants to read about my constipation right? Hahahaha

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
I have to admit, I like to post more when I feel positive about my life and not so down and blue (which is the reputation of the online blogger.) So when I feel I have something good to share like new photos, a new pressie, or just a damn good hair day, I post about it! Perhaps it is vanity, but a little self gloating always makes one feel good.

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?
Strangely enough, yes, I have found that I am less likely to be lazy about who I am simply because I don't want to disappoint the reader's nor my own idea of who I want to be.

So read all about my celebrity (hahaa) at Vintage Starlet

Warning: Some adult themes due to Burlesque and Pinup as well as one or two more personal posts like the ones of my hot fella!

I can't wait to check out everyone's blogs. :)

Mine is in my signature, in case anyone's interested!

Why did you start your blog?

So that I could have an outlet to ramble about things I like!

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?

I don't really write about one particular topic, just the stuff that interests me most -- which is usually makeup, vintage fashion, and old movies.

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?

I should be more motivated, haha! (Which reminds me, I should get around to writing the post I've been planning for the past couple of days...)

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?

More of an outlet than anything else; I really don't have anyone to talk to in real life about things like lingerie or Gloria Grahame movies, so I talk to myself on my blog! lol

Why did you start your blog?
My good friend Alex had one and I used it to keep track of her doings, and I used to do one on a site that I was no longer a member of, so I decided to start a Blogspot one in May 2008.

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?
My topic is the one that occupies most of my time (and the reason for me being here on the FL) - vintage! It started with just general chatter about my life, my latest modelling pictures (I'm horrible at updating my main site), candid shots of events I wore vintage to and my shopping wishlists and stuff. As time went on, people expressed an interest in me posting outfit shots, so I added those, and started to do articles (which I sometimes submit to other sites) and shopping guides etc. But all within the general vintage niche.

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
If I wasn't before, I am now! I used to blog about once a week, maybe even once every 10 days, but now I post about every 2 days or so. Or rather I did, before I finished my office job last week, now I don't know if I'll have time! But reading so many others' inspiring blogs full of fab pictures, sewing, events etc motivates me. I now have over 1,000 subscribers (according to Feedburner) and over 1,000 people read my blog every day (according to Statcounter) and I don't want to disappoint any of them. I get fantastic emails from people all over the world, one lady discovered my blog while in the depths of depression and grief after her mother died, and she emailed me just this Wednesday to say I inspired her to rise above it, get back into her vintage knitting (which her mother taught her and had discarded for obvious reasons) and get back out to vintage events and enjoy herself again. I mean if that doesn't make it all worthwhile I dunno what does.

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?
A way to stay passionate mostly, and inspire others to be passionate about vintage. :)

Sorry, that was long!

I think I can speak for most of the ladies here when I say: Fleur, we love your blog and you are an inspiration to us all.

Why did you start your blog?

I had one on myspace when it first started up, and I used it to vent about anything joyous or frustrating. Then I moved over to blogger as it's more user friendly. I love journaling--it helps me organize my thoughts. My blog is an extension of that. (In siggy)

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?

I refuse to limit myself to a genre. :) But I do have self imposed guidelines of keeping on the lighter side of things--it is more of an outlet for celebrating my creativity than it is to discuss politics or religion. Although I do have strong opinions about these things, I find it refreshing to have a place to delight on the sunny side of life--and I get to practice using my filter. (I usually keep any snarky comments or potty-mouthed observations on facebook.)
Right now my blog is centered more around vintage sewing than anything else, I think. But I like to blog about recipes and life's adventures too.

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?

Sure. It is a great way to let my family and friends know what I am up to. I also enjoy sharing my sewing experiences with other stitchers. I like the excitment I feel when I think, "Oh! I should blog about that!" :) Once I get my rear in gear and stock my etsy store (Mamie's Mercantile...there's nothing listed right now...but the pile of wares is accumulating) I am sure I will be writing more.

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?

Absolutely. I lurk on many blogs to find out what patterns are succesful or to gain inspiration for upcoming projects. Sharing the tidbits that I pick up along the way helps me stay focused and organized. Well, as organized as I can be without it hurting. And I like to write...I always feel better after I do it. Purging my thoughts feels good.

so looking forward to reading all the blogs of you darling fedora dames....

the link to mine is also in my signature...

Why did you start your blog?

i found that there are so many wonderful vintage-centric blogs about but few that had a particularly australian focus... & i also really wanted to look at building a blog that could grow to include multiple contributors who could share their specialised knowledge... its still a baby (only started in july) but its getting there...

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?
as i mentioned above i decided to take an australian focus on the vintage life... although i do stray into international territory...

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
motivation is not a problem.... finding time can be... but my insomniacal tendancies seem to help...

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?
more than anything i find it a joy to find, collate & (most importantly) share information/ knowledge/ discoveries/ sources/ treasures/ secrets/ people...

I started a Live Journal in 2003. I was tired of doing my "GlamSpams" (they took a few days to prepare!) so I moved to Blogger and made it more vintage-general.

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?
Always vintage!! Now I discuss sewing mostly, but I like to mix it up with movies, magazines, furniture, music, and buildings.

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
I used to update my LJ every 2 days. I update my blog once or twice a week.

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?
Always an outlet, always to keep the passion! The husband isn't so much into vintage patterns and hairdos ;)

I felt and still do feel the same. I still don't know why I have 145 "Followers." I mainly write for myself, though. On LJ i had an "audience" who expected a certain thing of me and I delivered. On Blogger I am a cracking bore lol. Also, my Facebook is a LOT more interesting. I guess I'm more interested in maintaining that instead. That's where I keep all kinds of vintage goodness hidden away. Hehe!

Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog to give me a place to "park" all the vintage things I ran across that were interesting to me: old ads, special vintage finds, reviews of costume collections at museums. That was in 2005, and I can't believe I still find things to talk about!

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?

I've been blogging about topics concerning vintage clothing from the start. I do veer wildly off course from time to time, but I always TRY to tie in vintage somehow.

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
Yes, after 4 years I'm still motivated because I like writing, and sharing photos and all the things involved in writing the blog. I've "met" some incredible people because of it. After doing a blog post on the scarf artist Vera, her nephew contacted me and filled me in on the details of her life and career. I wrote a post about California sportswear maker Alex Colman, and his son found it and emailed me. He ended up sending me a press book from the company that was from 1952! Stuff like that keeps me motivated.

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?
I'm not sure I'd call it an outlet, but I'd sure miss it if I had to give it up. See the link to The Vintage Traveler in my signature below.

!!! I should've known you were an FL member! Hi doll! You know I love your blog :)

I can't wait to check out all the new blogs. What fun!

Now, onto answering for my own...

Why did you start your blog?
It started originally with a way to keep organized and share wedding tidbits (getting married this November) but it quickly evolved into be blabbing about anything that pops into my head. I like to focus on things that make me happy (vintage, wedding, family, local goodies, design...I could go on and on!)

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?
This just took a little time. I didn't want to stay limited to one topic only, but I wanted to maintain some kind of continuity. Still not entirely sure I am, but I have fun nonetheless!

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
Oh yes, though I have creative droughts periodically. It gives me something to look forward to and keeps me reading others' blogs, too.

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?
I'd say so. It also helps keep me up on creative trends and I meet amazingly terrific folks. That's my real motivation :)

If you lovelies ever want to pop over and say hi, my blog is called Oh My Word!

Why did you start your blog?
I live in DeluxeVille....how can I not share that with the world?? It would be a crime not to! Plus all the cool kids are doing it! ;) If they jumped off a cliff, so would I!

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?
I can only say this, I stay on no certain topic....I have no niche. I just write about what I'm up to? What ever that may be? I guess some people find my little ramblings amusing...those poor, poor people.

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
Yes, the monkey on my back makes me do it. Perhaps I need an intervention. :(

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?

Yes, I am very passionate about spreading the gospel of DeluxeVille.
Amen! Hallelujah!

I started my blog simply as a creative outlet (originally on MySpace, but that never worked as well as I wanted.) I have a theory on living life and I call it living a "Beautiful Life." So that is what my blog is about anything and everything that falls under living a "Beautiful Life." Which is pretty broad! My blog is always linked in my signature! Hope everyone has a "Beautiful Day!"

1. Why did you start your blog?
I went through some difficult times 2 years ago and decided to write them off me. Since then I've had several blogs, but feel the need to let the seriousness go and so I started the Bettie Booh blog.

2. How did you decide on a topic, find your niche?
See above, and also, my passion is vintage clothes, and the 40's, pretty shoes and cute dresses, so why not write about it? ;)

3. Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why?
Yes. I've gained so many new readers since this may when I started, and its always fun to read your comments :) , and I feel I get more inspired to dress vintage and develop my style when I write about it.

4. Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate?

A bit of both, actually.

Here is my blog.

Why did you start your blog? I started collecting hairstyling magazines after seeing some scans around the internet. They were so interesting but so hard to find that I thought I needed to share them with everyone. I originally had them on my website, but updating was such a pain that I switched to a blog. The more I share, the more I have a good excuse to buy more.

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche? It followed naturally from collecting the magazines.

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why? Sometimes I'll update multiple times in a day, usually it's every couple of days. It's hard to stay motivated, although I'm obsessed with watching the statistics on my blog and the referrals. Not having to write very much (usually nothing at all) makes it easier to post more often.

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate? It keeps me interested in finding new sources for vintage hair and makeup. I've also "met" a lot of new people through my blog - by that I mean I've found new people to follow on my blog.

Great thread!!

Why did you start your blog? I love reading so many blogs, but I wanted to write about vintage and vintage-inspired fashion that flatters curvier (not [necessarily] plus-sized, just curvier) figures, hence the name Curve-Hugger. ;) There are so many petite young ingenues out there... I'm just not one of them!

How did you decide on a topic, find your niche? I think that if you're going to start a blog, you have to have something to say. You have to find your unique voice and perspective, otherwise you'll just be parroting back links to bloggers who do have a unique voice, and people can get that in their feedreader, lol. I'm definitely inspired by other bloggers, but I try not to copy what they're doing. When I first started, I brainstormed different topics that I wanted to write about (spotlighting Southern California vintage shops, vintage street style, styling tips, etc.).

Are you motivated to maintain your blog, why? I have sadly been neglecting it lately because my life suddenly got very hectic when I decided to go back to university. ;) I try to post at least once a week, though, which has become almost a necessity because I have so many tabs open with post ideas and research that I have to do a post if I want to clear out my tabs! After awhile, you also start feeling this strange responsibility to post, as though you'd actually be disappointing someone out there in the ether if you didn't. Does that sound strange?

Have you found your blog to be an outlet or a way to stay passionate? It's definitely a bit of escapism for me to just disappear into a fantasy world of gorgeous clothes and fabulous style icons, but it also excites me about the clothes and accessories that I do have, and helps me plan future purchases (and not be swayed by things not on "the list").
