A new trailer has been released for the next James Bond movie, Skyfall. It looks pretty incredible. I have to say, Daniel Craig really matches Ian Fleming's character (for me, anyway). He's moved this franchise to a new level and it was very much needed after the debacle (IMO) of some of Pierce Brosnan's Bond films.

Ok. I'll admit that one - Roger Moore wasn't a favorite of mine, either. I admit to liking Timothy Dalton, though. lol

Dalton I liked at the time because he seemed better than Moore, but in retrospect his film seem to have dated the worst of all of them (despite the fact that Moore's Bond was a fashion hound which does really make his films of their time).

There's Connery. And there's Craig. And that's it, as far as I'm concerned. The rest were drek.

I can't wait to see this new film.

Craig's films aren't Bonds, they're Ion doing Bourne and calling it Bond. ;)

If it were up to me, I'd pull the plug on the whole lot of them and go back and do all the books, in order, from the off - as period pieces, set as written, and true to the books. Probably wouldn't get much of an audience, but still. The BourneBond reboot is a bit less self-parody than earlier incarnations had become, though it's never going to be exactly cutting-edge credible, especially not after the SportsDay appearance last week....

I do think there is an element of "super soldier" about Craig's performance that isn't quite in keeping with Ian Fleming's portrayal of the character. However, I think he portrays the emotional and mental state of the character of Bond very well - more so than any of the others, including Connery. (Ack! Did I just say that? Blasphemy!).

I do have one complaint about the trailer. I think it shows too much of the plot. But don't they all nowadays? [huh]

I have to agree with this. I enjoyed Casino Royal, Quantum of Solace less so. The big problem for me is that they are not really Bond films just copies of Bourne film with some Jason Stratham "chase movie" added in. Criag is great for an action role, but he always makes me he's playing a Russia mafia thug from Eastern Promises rather than James Bond. I feel he lacks the charm or charisma for a good Bond and all we are left with is a shootum up car chase film.

Having said that the preveiw for the next one looks pretty good.

I think he has the charisma - if he would just use it (or the director would allow him to use it). I think it was there in Casino Royale - the scene on the train with Vespa comes to mind, as well as the scene where he sweet talks the blonde at the reception desk at the hotel in Casino Royale, too. But I didn't see it as much in Quantum, though to be fair, that movie was more about him getting his revenge than anything.

Well that and he looks nothing like Ian Fleming described James Bond. He said James Bond looked sort of like a cross between Hoagy Carmichael and himself:

Hoagy

Fleming's drawing of Bond

Looks more like Sean Connery to me. I like certain elements of each of the Bonds really. Connery was smooth and could work any situation. He would kill someone and walk away like nothing happened after smoothing out his hair and straightening his coat. :p Roger Moore gave Bond a sense of humor. He would kill someone and walk away with a witty remark and then toss the body off a train. :p Dalton, I could never understand him. Craig gets the raw Bond down. He has the look and expressions described in Fleming's books. Fleming said he wanted Bond to be a dull, uninteresting man to whom things happened. "there was something a bit cruel in the mouth, and the eyes were cold. That is Craig. [huh]
Now if you could get all these traits together then you would have a screen Bond of fiction caliber. :p
I did like the trail part where Craig landed on the back of the train car and just straightened himself out and walked away like nothing happened. :p

I really liked the new trailer. I didn't care for the new Craig Bond movies, but this one looks better. Bardem's character instantly brought me visions of Max Zorin however.

What always bothered me about Moore was he was never convincingly hard. Connery I had no doubt could kill me without breaking a sweat. Moore I had no doubt I could have taken down with a quick punch to the gut and a knee in the face. And Moore's Bond had a rubbish looking gun. Craig is the first one since Connery that looks and carries himself like a killer - which is what Bond is. Where they've all gone wrong, IMO, is in playing Bond as a likeable character, when In my belief he should really be an anti-hero.

I do think there is an element of "super soldier" about Craig's performance that isn't quite in keeping with Ian Fleming's portrayal of the character. It is a good point. The Bond of the books was a much more conflicted character who, while a killer, didn't always enjoy his work, nor was he indifferent to it. Craig seems to capture some of that.

Casino was entertaining. I picked it up in the supermarket on DVD (most DVDs there now sell for less than half the price of a cinema ticket, so anything I'm not absolutely bursting to see I tend to wait for the disc). Quantum I tried to watch twice - both times I lost interest and disappeared off to facebook within half an hour. Bear in mind I've sat through Plan 9 From Outer Space....

I'm not sure what it is about Quantum that didn't work...the plot with the whole buying up the world's water resources didn't strike me as quite sinister enough, I suppose, although the villain was sufficiently psychopathic.

Yeah this is about it on my side, it's been on the TV a few times and I cannot seem to manage to get through it. Just kind of dull, which is strange given all the action...

I don't know why everybody seems to put down George Lazenby. I think he was a lot better than Dalton or Brosnan, and even better than Moore.
