Working on the inventory again this weekend, and I found an interesting new (to me) tag in several of the Schobel hats.

I've known that the Schobels and Stetsons were some of the oldest hats in my collection, but it was confirmed when I found a Ceiling Price tag next to the size tag, as shown in this photo:

For purposes of future thread searchers, the tag reads as follows:

    O.P.A. Retail
    Ceiling Price
    (Sec. 13, M.P.R. 580)

Has anyone seen this type of label before? I'm guessing that it would normally have been removed after purchase, since it's a price tag.
  2. That's pretty cool. It dates the hat to between 1942 and 1947. OPA is the Office of Price Administration, created to keep a lid on wartime inflation.

Don't just tease us, show us the rest of the hat!

    Sorry for the delay...

Sorry for the delay... Photobucket was having problems this afternoon.

Here is a photo of the first hat. (Brown flecks are from decayed plastic lining, which I understand to be normal.) More hats to follow:

Schoble - Thin Ribbon, Superior-XX Quality

This one is a good example... It's a "Superior - XX Quality" hat with a thin ribbon. It's unlined, but still very well made.
