Aaaaah, I see. @Fanch, the thing I've been enjoying most about my job over the past month is noticing the dawn getting earlier and earlier at the weekend. On Saturday, I stepped out to find the dawn chorus in full flight, which is the first time in nigh-on six months.

So does anyone have any advice on a good spring jacket that won't break the bank? Want to keep it south of $100 Canadian. I am willing to entertain modern styles as well.

Errrr... I's 19 degrees and 2 feet of snow on the ground and its STLL SNOWING... Any thought of jackets has totally left my mind. This storm is so big they gave it name.

I would always first recommend a nice warming jacket, made of robust cotton/poly-mixture, half and half or at least 60% cotton/40% poly.
To me, it would be equal, if cotton/nylon, relate to M65-shell or cotton/polyester. Both is a great robust mixture.
But a nice undershirt-cotton turtleneck-pullover under it, of course!

this is from Barney's New York. Label says made in USA. No mention of leather type. Feels very much like older capeskin jackets I have. The main zipper is a Talon I most often see on motorcylce jackets. The breast pocket zipper looks like a typical talon it is not marked with a name. Zippers can provide dates, but I'm not sure in this case. While the half belt, adjustable buckle, action back is a tradition style it just seems odd to me. Though I don't know the age, it doesn't appear to be a "retro" issue.
The leather is very delicate with a light black lining. While it may feel like an inexpensive mall Jacket, it is much higher quality. I had no firsthand knowledge of Barneys so I toured their website. They don't appear to deal in mall jackets, or at least inexpensive mall jackets.

Nice jacket. If it was originally from Barney's (at least from the last 30 years) it must have cost a fortune. I used to live a couple of blocks from them when they were on 7th Ave., and I remember that they were one of the first stores to dramatically present their goods and then charge dizzying prices for them back in the late '70's.

Nicely cut jacket. I was thinknig Highwayman style, until i saw the back, which is a nice design. Longer length - reminiscent of a long halfbelt. Sounds like the leather is a lamb nappa hide, or something similar. Reminds me of some of the Wested jackets. Nice zipper pullers.

Well I just bought a nice new jacket on sale at old navy. Odd colour but I like it and will go with just about everything in my wardrobe. Yes almost everything I own is the colour of mulch.

Yes it is a nice thick denim-weave. I Did not know it was called a type III jacket, good to know. I tried on a lot of them over the last few weeks. I was keen on a Levi's (as I had one as a teenager) but it was a crazy snug fit. Tight across the back and shoulders when trying to move. It was also crazy thin. Thinner than most of my jeans. This one from Old Navy fits great. It's fairly snug on my hips when buttoned up with freedom of movement. Also doesent look to baggy. Very happy with the purchase.

It torments me to see some of the jackets in the Classifides (like the LW Suburban currently appearing), see they're in my size and at a reasonable price, and realize they'd be too warm for most of the year in this tropical miasma. Then the other day I saw a black Headwind A1 in goat in exactly my size and at a very good price, so I went for it and am currently going through the usual anxieties of expectation waiting for its arrival. Does anyone have an idea of the feel of 3 oz. goat with sateen lining? Comfortable in 65-75'F weather?

The leather is fairly thick, and has a tough feel to it but the grain is not matched at all. It's lined and fairly warm in our cool spring weather, and, IMO, worth every penny I paid for it! It had about $4 in coin in the pocket, too!

My early spring jacket will be either my Aero 30s HB or Vanson PLU3 minus the sweater, down vest and North Face windstopper vest; maybe just a sweater. Later Spring will most likely be my Levis Type III jacket or my Dickies "Club" jacket

What a great jacket. I love the style, and all those pockets! I carry so much crap with me, I never seem to have enough pockets...Yep, warmer springtime, in Germany. Freeze is gone, padded jackets are not more necessary, now. I wanted a classic, rustical cotton-fieldjacket in olive/taupe-color and I got one, today:
Unpadded and surely nice breathy.
The shoulders, arms and parts around the zipper got strengthening-patches, looking like a kind of Canvas.
