Wool lining question

I have a question about those vintage wool lined motorcycle jackets. Did these have some kind of interlining or was that wool plaid lining only insulation after leather outer shell? Same question about cotton drill/sateen lining inside the arms - I think there should be thin insulation layer between outer shell and cotton?

I have one wool lined jacket that has medium weight cotton batting between wool and leather and it is pretty warm, but not too warm to wear on colder days in summer. I just can't decide which lining to use for my next jacket.
