I've had two blazers by this maker and the quality was terrible. Material wore out in less than a year of wear and pilled and frayed. Friends tell me this is not unusual with Zegna. I was surprised.

Same here. I have a navy blue herringbone tweed that exhibited the same traits. It's somewhere in the back of my closet.

Wow! I have purchased Zegna Sports Jackets and Suits for my Husband since we've known each other. Not any from Switzerland, they have all been labeled Italy. Not one bad issue with any of them. The same with trousers from that brand, all from Italy. They can be a bit "pricey" but they are super nice looking and worth the cost in my opinion. I also have purchased Brioni Shirts, Sport Coats and Suits, a few Tuxedos all from Italy. Even more pricey but the style and craftsmanship is top notch and some items are hand sewn.
