Secret Weapons

I'm usually a member of the red toenail club, but I always have to have my fingernails and toenails a matching colour, otherwise I feel scruffy. I also have to have matching underwear on.

My other secret weapons are probably my naughty piercings and my one sneaky tattoo that no one would ever guess I had if they looked at me.

Count me in for red toenails.

And eyebrows, I love to keep mine arched and refined vintage syle. I seem to get a lot of compliments on them, not sure what I do that others don't.

The Black Eyeliner- Works everytime, everywhere. I literally will not leave the house until my eyeliner is PERFECTLY applied. I rock the classic kitten style.

To me, its more than just a cosmetic skill--it is an art!

Fleur, i have the same issue as you. I pull my toenails off subconsciously, i bite my nails and i also have Dermatillomania, meaning i bite the skin of my fingers and peel the skin off my heel/toes etc.

its really hard not to bite because its impulsive.
i also honestly don't think i have anything i do every day except brush my teeth. I'm just so forgetful.

'ooh my secret is brushing my teeth day and night'..........glamourous....

I'd add that I find a chiropody sponge much much better at removing hard skin than a regular pumice stone. Newton's (the brand- Boots stocks it) does one- it's a bit more expensive, it's black, crumbles a bit and has sulphur in it to retard bacterial growth- so it smells abit- however SuperDrug (UK) do one- it's white and has no smell and is really cheap- like £1.60 or similar. it's just as good as the Newtons one.

I am really hard on my feet- I walk 'hard' and they get calloused very easily- I've been using chiropody sponges for at least 10 years now and they really work.

That sounds good! I'll be round to Boots tomorrow. I've never heard of those sponges before. I bought a Ped-egg but it was no good.

Ped eggs look bad- they lok like they would only be useful if you have seriously dry and manky skin.

Just a quick word about chiropody sponges- they are hard like a pumice but they have more holes and the holes have sharper edges than pumice stones (which is why they probably work better)- the term 'sponge' is quite misleading, I think so anyway.

I have manky toenails (a fungal infection passed on to me by an ex-boyfriend that nothing will shift) so I have to keep them painted red at all times as what's underneath is just vile! But when they're painted up they look pretty ok. My feet used to be one of my favourite things about myself as they are smallish and cute, but the fungal nail infection has rather scuppered that.

I wear eyeliner every day, but I don't think it's my secret weapon - I don't think I have one. What is the war against?!

Ah, I've not had a day without toenail polish since I last posted in this thread! Sorry to hear you are having these problems Annie, they sound just like mine. I stopped biting my nails and peeling off my toenails when I was about your age, though I do still have a tendency to gnaw the skin around my nails when I'm nervous AND pick my heels. So it sound the same, although I have never heard the technical term before. Are you self-diagnosed or did the doctor tell you what you had? It's not easy to overcome it with willpower, but I did it, so I'm sure you can too! (even though I have a way to go with the feet, but my mum is the same!)

Earrings, which is just kinda weird.... if I'm having a "down" day I put in a pair of silly earrings (today's are enamelled metal strawberry drop earrings from Accessorize) even though the chances are they will be invisible under a yard of hair lol and I feel "dressed"

Wish I could paint my toenails but because I do Anglo-Saxon re-enactment which usually involves me scampering about barefoot, I can't... I'd just forget to take it off. (Boo!!)

And silk underwear. As soon as I've got rid of the Splodge (sorry Will but it's getting a bit hot to keep lugging two and a half stone of baby around!!) I can start wearing my silk undies again.

If your problem is literally just a habit then it might be worth going to see a hypnotherapist about it. I'm a clinical hypnotherapist and some of what you're describing can be dealt with in one session. Nail biting and things like that are usually a childhood habit that has just remained with you as you get older and usually gets worse during times of stress. You don't need it anymore, but it's still annoying that it's there.

Dermatillomania is obviously more serious than habit and I can't help over a silly post message, but in this case it might still be worth seeing a hypnotherapist over it. I know the NHS is not up to standards when it comes to medical psychological health and are specifically poor when it comes to dermatillomania, but as hypnotherapists we have been trained to deal with it. If you want to PM me at any point I could help you find a reputable professional in your area and how to decipher between those that say they're a hypnotherapist but have no training, and those who have. Anymoos sorry for being so :eek:fftopic:

My secret weapon used to be my hair. When it was set the curls were springy and the bangs hid my lazy eye. I always felt very confident with my hair done in vintage style. About 4 months ago it started breaking off really badly so I had to cut quite a bit. It should grow back in no time as it was never very long in the first place. But with my hair and recent lizard like skin issues I am thinking I need a new secret weapon. I'd try the toe nail thing but my feet are ugly.

Noooo, Ped Eggs rock! I only have a tiny bit of hard skin and the ped egg sorts it right out.
