you forgot you had it? :eusa_doh:
LOL. I know that sound lame, but it's true. I wore the fedora once, put it back in the box and then put the box in my upstairs bedroom closet on the top shelf. It was out of sight, out of mind until very recently. Since I prefer the Akubra and Stetsons I have, I am selling this one.

Yes, well I figured if I can forget about a $300 + fedora hidden away in a closet, I guess it is not that important to me. So on sale it is! Do you think my price is fair, given its condition?

Well, if it was me, I would spend the extra $50 on a custom one that I chose from Art instead of this black one. But it looks very nice.

Agreed. It seems a tragedy to get rid of a custom hat, especially a custom hat from one of the finest hatters in America, in favor of factory produced hats. -M

O, you guys make alot of sense, and I know that Art's custom hat cannot compare in quality with any Akubra or Stetson, but I have so many other (non-custom made) fedoras and actually like them better! That may sound like heresy on this forum, but the crown on my VS is a bit too high for my tastes. I should have asked Art to make it a little shorter. Add to that the downturn in the economy and I could use the extra $$ for Christmas, and the fact that one of Art's creations would be more likely to see than one of my factory-made fedoras, these are all reasons to try and sell it here. If it does not sell here, I can try eBay. And if I am stuck with it, well, I guess I can live with one of Art's masterpieces. :whistling

My advice is give it a chance as it is: I've known numerous people (including myself) who were leery of the vintage style crown (ie. high crown) when they first got a VS hat. After wearing it for a couple days you get used to it. I love my tall VS hats now. In fact, I prefer them to my shorter crowned hats. If you don't prefer the taller crown after a couple days, then I'd recommend shortening it, and if you still don't love the hat then, eBay (or the lounge) are the place to go. -M

It does not sound like the Lounge guys want me to sell my VS fedora. shakeshead
If I can't sell it here (although it's only been posted for 24 hours), can it really sell at eBay? After all, most of the real fedora lovers are here.

Well, I think that what you're hearing is a bunch of guys who may have gotten rid of something at some point in their lives because we thought we didn't want it any more and seriously regretted it later... and we don't want that to happen to you!!

I've only seen one VS on eBay, but I don't recall what it went for. The problem you'll run into there is the lack of name recognition (no offense, Art! ;)) unless the buyer is from here or is already a VS owner. As Johnny J said, I think that most of us would go the extra $50 if we intended to get a Work of Art and have one custom made for our own noggin. I think you'd have to price it significantly lower here to get a buyer; since there's no telling what'll happen on eBay if you post it there you might want to set a reserve.

Put the VS out handy. Take the advice of others here if you find it's too tall a crown and lower it. I find that if I do not make the effort to get out different hats from time to time I'll just grab the same hat each time I'm heading out the door out of convenience. If it's out and handy, you're likely to wear it.

That's my additional two cents on the subject.

Cheers,
Tom

Also, in my opinion, it really is a buyer's market out there right now, so if you try to sell the hat on eBay you'll probably end up selling it for significantly less. -M

I agree. One of the advantages to having Art make a hat is that it's custom made to your head size and shape not to mention color and style. To me that's worth the extra $55 above the price Donato's asking. So I wouldn't pay $250 for a used VS.

As I read it, the notice says 250 or best offer. Why not make an offer? Note too that when you get more posts under your belt you will be able to send Donanto (the seller) a PM as well.
