no, size was spot on.
for me the fabric -brown gabardine- said 'rockabilly' too strongly. but for someone who likes rockabilly and 30s belt-backs, this is the jacket !

That very same jacket was up for sale two or three weeks ago and I can remember that someone bought it. Now when found it again a few days ago I was amazed to see it back on the circuit. Another buyer didn't pay, obviously. There seems to be some strange kind of fatum connected with this jacket. I think Marc is right... :eeek:

Some experts want to teach, even if fewer and fewer people are learning. Other experts want to be around fellow experts and to learn from them. If I were only the latter, I would have left this place for good in 2008. Many others did, and never returned.

The problem is that there's nowhere else to really go. Sure, one can start a blog FWIW. But other forums? "The London Lounge" isn't interested in vintage. Nor are "Style Forum", "Ask Andy About Clothes", and "Film Noir Buff". They look at 1930s 'Esquire' and 'Apparel Arts' drawings by Laurence Fellowes and either slavishly worship or rapidly disparage them. That's as far as their interest in vintage menswear goes, and no amount of encouragement can expand their horizons.


What's left? To launch a members-only forum where participants are screened for their expertise in vintage menswear. It will be a tiny, fratricidal pond, with no room for potential up-and-comers (if any even exist these days).

Well, Wildroot/Forgotten Man, The Wingnut, etc. are stronger than I am. They left the Lounge (or at least the vintage menswear sections) and never came back. They've said that they're happy with that decision, and I'm sure they're wondering why I haven't been able to follow their lead for good.

Marc, your frustration with this forum is so palpable that it might need its own user name and avatar soon.

i have a feeling that you need to move into new areas (away from the computer screen) where your hunger for uncovering new vintage clothing knowledge can be satisfied. here's an idea:
'Belt Back Heaven'; you track down and photograph the greatest examples of belted back sports jackets and suits on earth and publish them into one coffee table size hardback book that will become an instant classic and must-have book among vintage enthusiasts.

i have a vested interest in this book being made.

Sure, that'll work. How about this? A minimum number of Fedora Loungers (a hundred? five hundred?) can agree to finance the book's 'vanity production' costs by paying for copies in advance. (For a book like that, expect to pay $100.)
