Beautiful hats, gentlemen - but it's even better to see Charlie back and kicking. Hope everything went well and you're out of pain, Sir :)

Thank you SO much, Ole and dh66. It's a joy to finally post again! As for pain, well it hurt more not to be able to wear my hats for few days. Thank goodness for modern medicine, I guess. It has been like a "mini vacation," as you can imagine. I thought the sixties were over, but I was wrong! What a TRIP, man...!

Richard - I definitely like the Christy's you're sporting today. Are they as comfortable as they are attractive? The only moderns I own are Borsalinos (very comfy) and Akubras (rugged but not so comfy).

Off to a good start to the weekend, gents.

Baron--very nice.

dh66--nice Dobbs, a classic gray hat with black ribbon. You can't go wrong with that choice.

hatsRme--I was wondering where you had been, buddy. I had forgotten your scheduled surgery. Here's to your health and a speedy recovery. (I have it on good authority that wearing a fedora speeds the healing process.:))

T Jones--a nice combo with the Bradford and black leather jacket.

Qvist--congrats on the new lid and welcome to the CD club. It looks great.

Manfred--I agree with Andy, you and your caps go well together.

A crisp morning brought out the VS Granite.

150719541 - Nice straws.

Rogera - lovely VS. The Pecan colour is great.

Baron - Nice hat that Hepworths. I see a fair few Hardy Amies for Hepworths suits on my trawls, but I've yet to find a Hepworths hat.

TJ - I've said it before, but that Bradford looks good on you.

Mikko - looks great on you - you suit the wider brim, and the crown height is spot on.

Alan - Great texture and colour :)

Manfred - great looking cap

g.d. - Lovely VS

Thanks Andy - the crown is too low and tapered for my liking.

I like Christy's bowlers, and their caps are nice, but as far as their modern fedora/trilbies go I'm not overly impressed. The felt is nicely pounced and a good balance between holding it's shape and ease of shaping - however - it shrinks significantly the first time you get the hat wet (after that first soaking further shrinkage is minimal) increasing taper... The sweats aren't great - not up to Akubra standards (leather but only just), although to be fair they're no worse than many a vintage British hat. Ribbon stitching isn't great either. They're no worse than modern production Stetson's, but not a patch on the quality of the hats they were producing as recently as the 70's...
