I've added a few new pairs to my collection recently so I thought I'd show them off. (With shoe trees this time!)
The first is a pair of 1940s/50s French Shriner & Urner Mesh Spectators:

According to that listing for a pair of Edwin Clapps, the shoe "can be dated by it relatively pointed toe and half-canvas lining to the first quarter of the 20th century." My shoes have the same pointed toe and half canvas lining. Could they really be that old?

I could be wrong, and probably am, but in the upper picture, the shoes seem to have a slight spade sole. They don't make spade soles anymore to my knowledge.

Nice selections... and YOUR dating is correct. That Classic Shoes site, while pretty cool for some nice pics and SOME good info... the dates are all over the place and complete guesses. On a side note, those Clapp seal and calf specs you linked to are actually 1940's. They were MINE, and I sent them to a "friend" at what amounted to the same price I paid for them. He said they were for his personal collection. 2 months later, he had sent them to Minasian to be sold at a ridiculous price. I try to "pay it forward" in special occasions, but it didn't work out that time. Luckily I have another pair in size 11.

Yeah, it breaks me up too. Nothing hurts more than paying that much for goodyear. Then again, the 2k Lobbs and Anthony Cleverleys are devastatingly painful when handing over that type of money for goodyear...such a rip off for good style, and l feel stupid for doing it.
No worries Isshy. Now THIS is what floats my boat and makes me feel reeel good mate. Hand welted for a good price, and farrr superior to any E.G/Lobbs etc. When you compare the E.G's side by side with the Vass, the E.G's look so cheap and lifeless. The Vass are completely awesome, stunning and a complete breath of fresh air. Vass are a truely superb experience in fantastic footwear, and no rtw (including Bemmer) compares.
My new Vass. They still sent the wrong shoe trees, l paid an extra $100 for traditional 3 piece trees. I don't want to send them back because it will be expensive and too much messing around with refunding the cost difference, so hopefully they will send some more trees out and call it quits.

I am a BIG fan of the Adelaide, l think l have about 7 or 8 pairs in that style now. Before about 3 years ago l had never seen an Adelaide in Australia, that's why l had 4 pairs of bespokes made in that style. I am still tempted to get more Adelaides.Isshy, l hope you get a pair of Vass one day, but be warned....you WILL become completely HOOKED!!!!! It is not just a shoo, it is a magical experience that surpasses all other experiences in rtw. It is the big daddy of all experiences.

Cookie and I both agree that F last is stunning (albeit not really a traditional Vass last, though). Fantastic purchase. thanks for sharing

Actually, they are quite modern. Within the last 20 years for sure. Italian made, by the shape and style. The Italians LOVE Vintage US shoe designs and shapes

If those fit you..buy them. Nice and possible age 1930-1940's They have a 6 eyelet lace...if you do buy them PLEASE soak them in conditioner...help give them some life! Soak them inside and out and for more than one day....and let them then dry off a while before you do wear them. They may even be older than 1930's but no matter what those are worth owning.
Also a note...they may NOT be a size 12...a shoe can be far different from one shoe maker to the next on the size compared to the measured outside of the shoes....even more so with vintage...if they are too small you may be able to have them stretched if done with care...and depending upon the leather condition.
I sure hope you find these work for you and have some fun owning them. If they were something I wanted to bid on, I would not hesitate.

These are a pair of recent purchased shoes for my Husband...and as they have a label (see it in the picture) saying they are Bostonian brand, there is little doubt that Footjoy delivered the product to Bostonian by doing the outsource for the shoe order. The shoe is made on what some identify with the footjoy "Rex Last". As all the other shoes that are footjoys in these pictures and are all made on that same "Rex Last"....these are a bit different as they are real patent leather and suede shoes something not normally found but not totally rare. The fact they have a Bostonian label perhaps is a bit more rare...at least to us here. From what we have owned here the normal footjoy made on the Rex last have what we call a "soft spade" sole....which means they are a spade sole but not in a true traditional spade sole. The traditional spade sole has the pointed sharp edge on both outer side of the sole/welt, where these only have that on one side alone.
Footjoy shoes are a riot to own as they normally are very stylish and from my Husband giving his review...they are comfortable and do live up to the name, "FootJoy". Each pair (except for the black and white spectators) have a fully leather lined padded interior, the footbeds are all nicely padded and the shoes from my Husband wearing them says it is hard to beat a decent pair of FootJoys when it comes to comfort. Two pair are still Never been worn...but that will soon change...lol
