Hahaha, nice try Blue! Look elsewhere guys, I'm only making a special block if someone orders a special hat, otherwise I leave the blockmaking to the professionals! There are a lot of blockmakers out there, one in Spain even makes tools, but I've never bought from him... http://hatblocksroland.blogspot.com.es

Just finished reading the whole conversation on the d'Aquino hats, and realize my reply makes little sense... @blueAZNmonkey I am always open to working on difficult custom projects, being able to sculpt a block to measure is an advantage, it does add to the final cost because these things take time and effort but it's faster, cheaper and there is more control of the outcome. So bring it on guys... I'm game. Having said that, I know you're all in very good hands with @EstherWeis and the other fine vendors at FL :)

Hey folks!
Heading out on a day trip to do some Christmas shopping. It has been windy and raining hard off and on for the last several hours, so I'm going with this Comte de Florence flat cap with thick quilted interior.

And ear flaps!

Oh! that old thing! Truly beautiful! The color combo is great. Keep em' coming, I have been enjoying your creations!
Well... not really old, but well used and loved :)

Thank you!

I have. Not bad. He's no Guy Morse Brown but decent.
There's a good one in my neck of the woods.
They seem to be coming from under the woodwork, there was a time when it was very difficult to get a block made... I stick to vintage blocks from eBay Germany, it's my undoing... Having said that, I've heard bad things about the Spanish guy, mostly because if you tell him to copy somebody elses signature hat shape he has no compunction doing so... ah well...

Great hat/wallpaper synergy!

That double stitched binding is beautiful, and the hat looks great on you @hatophile

Sorry Esther, lunch demanded my attention. I may well have to take you up on that offer :)

Today's choice of hat is inspired by @Daniele Tanto 's long hair felts, @mayserwegener 's black german and austrian hats and @EstherWeis ' lovely ladies' fedoras. This is a black Austrian long haired fedora from Mühlbauer's in Vienna:

The felt is so unbelievably soft to the touch, you just can't stop stroking it. Here's a close up of the texture and the ribbon:

Beautiful hat @Celia I know the feeling, some felts just beg to be stroked! From what I see on their website Mühlbauer has been making hats since 1903, but I get the feeling it was women's hats, which explains why @mayserwegener cannot find them on the trade guide from the twenties. I wonder what the date is on yours.

Woohoo, it's zoomed up to 0.5 degrees. For the moment Resistol

Testing it to see if it's enough hat for my trips today.

Not at all sure why I gave my brother-in-law my Tilley Winter hat when he was on his way to a month and a half in Florida.

So many fine hats today. Enjoy.

@Michael I thought people in the USA retired to Florida!!

Cristina fantastico!
Grazie caro Daniele!

Good looking Hommie Daniele.
Looking sharp Michael, stay warm.
Very festive Kuki. Your hat reminds me of the Whos from Whoville, Dr Suess.

I must confess the hat is a bit crazy... but then again so was Ninotchka's!

Happy day!

Ha, finally found the quote hanging out. As I said before Matt, I want that hat. Too sweet.

Forlorn look and all, Michael, topped off with that sweet little lid you look MARVELOUS!

Thanks Charlie. Back from my errands and the Resistol was up to it. Only a few blocks of walking involved today, and waiting for the car to sort of warm up.

Out and about wearing my green tube hat made of wool braid sewn on a straw hat sewing machine. The first pic with my friend Nina and the second with a chubby admiror.

Fabulous Hat Kuki. And great looking scarf and coat to go with it. I would love to visit that hat store and maybe even grab and umbrella.

Good looking Hommie Daniele.
Looking sharp Michael, stay warm.

Thanks Hatto. I think staying warm is out of the picture for the next little while, or months, but I'll try to go with comfortable at least.

I think Florida is what my sister and her husband have planned, but much as I may occasionally suffer in the cold I'm really not fond of heat. At least in the cold I get to play dress up. Ha ha.

Aren't those 30's and early 40s movies a great inspiration for women's hat designs. There are so many that are so over the top, yet gorgeous at the same time.

Interesting little buggers, eh? My gal's ten years old now. She has an AARP card.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.
Yeah, they are really interesting. My females are a nightmare. But the male is the sweetest little rabbit... The oldest I have are over four years old now. I inherited them from a family friend and I don't know exactly how old they were when I adopted them.
