Wore my Sea Spray straw today. Whenever I wear it, i find my head sweats MUCH more than sans hat. Is it because the straw is bad? Doesn't seem to be doing much cooling!

When I went down to Delmonico Hatter, earlier this summer, I was looking at one of their finely woven straw hats and even in the store it felt ... "closed". I guess that's the best word I can think of for the feeling. So I asked the gentleman helping me and he said that a good straw simply won't have much in the way of airflow and that in fact really good ones can be so airtight that they can hold water! So based on that experience and information, I tried on a Mayser Imperia Panama with an open weave and bought it. We had a 7+ day heat wave here in southern New England with a couple days over 100F and I had no issues with this one.

I still want a nice, finely woven Panama too, but it wouldn't be for days when it's so hot and humid ... my Mayser would be for those days. :)

Yes Doug and I have one of them. I had tried to contact you to see if you minded me copying yours. I hope you don’t mind but I totally ripped off your design.

Mine has a 6” crown and 3” brim.

No problem at all. Have at it! I get my ideas from all over the place, including vintage hats and customs I see here and on the internet.

The natural Gannon colors came from a 50s Royal Stetson I really like. The twisted knot is from hats I've seen from Knox hats, and Gannon customs owned by @moontheloon and @Frunobulax

Matt Deckard has designed some cool hats, I'll say. I had a clone made of a @Chamuco hats, now known as The Rodolfo. The way he puts 3 colors in the ribbon keep looks very sharp to my eye.

Oh, wonderful hat porn this morning Doug! I am still waiting for Winchester to remake that red felt to create my own "Rodolfo". One day...

All are nice but the black cherry is truly outstanding.

That must be the black cherry before Winchester reworked their dye formula. I prefer the old color like yours with more cherry and less black. Sadly, we haven’t seen much of @Chamuco lately.

Not a western wearing person, but I dig this one a lot. That crease sure is showy.

The mercury has just passed 100 and the short-lived felt was replaced with an Akubra Country Club.

I sure like the looks of that Akubra Brent. Maybe not enough summer left to get one this season, but it may be on a short list next spring.

I drove to Acapulco with my Milan on. I find it cuts down on the glare a lot, and for some reason, I dislike wearing sunglasses. Stopped for lunch at a typical Mexican restaurant in Cuernavaca, said to have the best weather in the world.
The last pics are of me, Ana, Sabrina, and a friend of hers. Ana is wearing the Milan Graham Thompson made for her. What a small head she has!

I think these two beauties will suit your vacation just fine. That Milan is so fine. Great looking family, well hatted too.

A nice mid 50s morning finds me under a Hi-7 Resistol for morning coffee

Enjoy the cool morning Michael. I just love the color on that Resistol.

I think this was a fine choice for a summer straw Pat. I like the weave. Detail shots would be nice.
