Off to rake and gather yard debris at a city park as part of our church Day of Service. Three hours ought to do me in....

NW hats conversion of an old Stratton western. A buffalo skin hat band tops it off.

I think Virginia and Carson City were mentioned often in "Bonanza", Justin. Before you were born. One of the first T.V. shows filmed in color.
Did you know color T.V. was invented by a Mexican?
Guillermo González Camarena.
I think it might be Mexico's only technologic invention, so I know it well. Chocolate and Tequila aren't technologic, so they don't count. :)

Scottish inventor John Logie Baird demonstrated the world's first color transmission on July 3, 1928 [...] The demonstration was of a young girl wearing different colored hats. (it was a mechanical system)

new arrival, and currently being worn. Taking it up to Virginia City, so I may have to take more photos of it in use. If you haven't heard of Virginia City, I recommend a quick Google search!

I bought a 30s Stetson Number 1 from Moon, but I had to have the ribbon replaced (vintage) and the brim binding taken off because they were falling apart. I also replaced the sweat because I damaged the reed on the original trying to stretch it a little. There was nothing for it. It hurt to do it, but the hat was unwearable.

The good news is that I found a Sombrería, recommended by @justdaniel (gracias, Daniel, Ignacio says hello, and he also said he didn't charge you more because you're a Gringo).

The owner did it all while I waited. He reblocked it and creased it, too, and then adjusted it to my head using a conformer, and all for $75 dollars. He wanted to charge me $40 and have me come back in a week, but I offered $75 if he did it on the spot, and saved myself two hours of Mexico City traffic.

I also found out I am not a 58.7 cms. I am a 58 (7 1/4) long oval. I was astonished to see the little perforation "map" made by the conformer, that also showed my skull's long axis is off center! Wow! I didn't know that at all.

Now the hat really is custom made for me. The feeling is amazing. I should have followed Art's advice, dammit.
I will end up taking all my hats to be reblocked, and will have several of them deep-cleaned.

The pics are before and after. The last pics are of the "map".

Sheez bejesus Rockwater!!
I know Geologists use something for scale in a photo....but a Stetson!
It’s ears look to be about 4 1/2’ each.
Purple, hexagonal crystals...not Flourite...
Amethyst? Motherlode!!
Way cool!!
Bowen
Yes, Amethyst for sure, must be thousands of tons of it here at the show. Mostly from Brazil and the deepest purple from Uruguay. The white crystals within the geode are calcite.
