Mmmm. Here is a photo of the felt, as well as the finished hat above.

To me some great blue/green undertone..as you will see with the ribbon choice in the previous page, a lot depends on the ribbon choice too.

Catherine is usually very good at answering - but it maybe that the answer was not clear to her. I'd almost suggest you place an order, and put your specs in the comments and follow up with a mail. Once it gets on the block, Peter will pick it up and make sure you get what you want. I'd go for a full beaver, and ask that its malleable with your specs, and I'm pretty sure you will get what you want. Often the order speaks louder than words, and I can vouch for their service and detail on finish especially on custom specs. I understand you would want this before the order, but I can also tell you that they will deliver. I'd give the dimensions, ask for beaver, and say you want it shapeable. 2-3 months later the magic will be delivered with free postage.

I hear you. It’s tough to separate the window shoppers from real customers, and there’s only so much time in a day. I’ll try again.

My problem is Panos’ experience. Specifications were given but the hat was not made to those specs and that was never communicated to the customer. I just want to make sure before I place an order.

2-3 months is much faster than what I’m used to, so there’s that going for it.

I have had only the best experience with them, and can fully recommend them for their work - their linings are the best in the hat world in my opinion, beats Optimo and the others in a different price range, and every other aspect of their work is top class. Ask for any ribbon color you want too, as well as extras like wind cords - its all available and they will guide you through the options if necessary outside of the website.

I had a question about block profiles as I wanted a relatively straight-sided block. This was my response from Hornskov:
“Our blocks don't have a taper at all.”

I believe most all blocks have some taper. I think that a truly vertical block would make it difficult to get the felt to release. In any case, I’m comforted knowing that the hat won’t have excessive taper.

What I don't like is the rounded front that some hats have, even when blocked with minimal taper. What's that all about?
yes, I have a straight sided vintage block with almost zero dome but it does have a slight taper at the front visible when you look at the hat in profile. Almost imperceptible looking at the block but quite noticeable in the finished hat

Thanks Jauntyone - wow its been 10 years or more hasn't it!

13cm front and 7cm brim for the C crown, and about 11cm front and 6cm brim for the Mogul model in beaver Nebula. But you can ask them for any dimensions I would say, and they cannot be recommended stronger by myself.

Love the blue trim on the natural felt. Have to keep that combination in mind when I get my natural refurbished.

Yes, it's been a while!

A 7 cm brim is pretty wide for you, have you moved away from the stingies?

You know, back in the days of Art, the crowns were too high for the brim - that was due I guess to Art`s blocks. Since I discovered Hornskov, I let Peter chose the brim size according to his style. So for casual like the natural felt above, that brim size suits the C crown. For a smaller brim, the models like the Henchman, Mogul (Nebula beaver above) and others fit that role. I leave the balance to Hornskov, and I chose the model - frankly much happier with the outcome than in the old days. I am so happy I discovered a maker who covers the full range and has different styles and has an interpretation how each should look. But generally yes, I've graduated to a 2 1/4 to even 2 1/2 brim, though 2 3/8 is my ideal. Best wishes

I've got an Alberti all lined-up, but I haven't placed the order yet.... this would be my first custom hat. Does anyone have a head shot of a completed Alberti (not from the Hornskov site)? I think I just need a slight nudge to step over the threshold into buying custom hats.

I ordered 2 hats right now by Hornskov. 1 For my wife a big brim combination of the Libertine and the Muse in cherry blossom rabbit/hare and a teardrop in camel 50% beaver for me with a 2tone hatband and a brimbinding in the same colour as 1 of the 2 colours of the hatband. Can't wait to receive them haha....

I also have one on order, but I’m still over a month out.

Cathrine Hornskov told me that they are moving away from petersham ribbon (hurray!), and I politely insisted on a non-petersham ribbon for my hat. I also had them assure me in writing that the hat would be made to my exact dimensions as someone else here reported receiving a hat that was not quite what they had ordered. I went with the 50X Alberti in the Reshapable line. I do hope they add more felt colors to this line.

Sorry I can’t help with a photo, I would have liked to have seen a few myself. Good luck.
