Hello, this is my first post, and I crave for information about Lightning zipper and ZIPP zipper to identify the era of the jacket made in.

Can anyone help me become familiar with these zippers? I'd like to know when they are used....

That Lightning zipper looks the same as the one in a 1936 Lightning ad. The shape of the Zipp is also very 1930s.

Those zip publications are great! Furthermore, there are several ways and clues regarding the possible production date of garments. Zippers is one way, but there are other clues such as style, leather, fabric, lining, hardware, thread type, and manufacture of the actual garment.
Clues in the zipper such as zipper style, material, finish, stop, box, and pins can also give you an idea of the decades of zipper production. Can you share a full image of the front and back of the jacket?
The rounding of the slider top screams late 40's to me. It reminds me of the very popular crown style that was also used by other makers.

Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum!

What a wealth of information in this thread! 1936 is pretty early in the zipper world. They had been around for a while, weren't really popular till mid 30s. Notice how the different brands are so similar to the Talon zipper of that era.

Thank you.

Incidentally do you know the era this zipper was used ?

I have relatively many vintage garments with Lightning zippers....and cannot find much information.
