I’ve been tempted to try to get one. A classic design. Did you order from them directly?
I ordered through a shop called Franklin & Poe. I'm in the US and they're in Philadelphia, PA. The store's "citywide" jacket is basically the tailgunner without the western yoke. They have stock of this jacket in 3 different leathers and free returns so if you're interested but unsure of fit you can try it out with peace of mind. That's what I did and then ended up returning the size 40, which I used as a fit jacket, and then placed the order through Franklin & Poe with a few changes.

Awesome Lighting! I’m sure you’ve posted the answer to this previously, but is this their horsehide?

Thanks! Yeah, I love this jacket.

It’s indeed their standard horse, but it’s from a batch some ten years back. Nice graining going on and pretty hefty too. The current HH is much more smooth and vinyl-like. Not bad, just different.

Thanks. That's their dark brown goat. I've had really good horse hide jackets in the past, but I always came back to goat. It's so durable for its weight.
I remember seeing their goat when I visited their shop (years ago). I remember being impressed by it. I think they do an excellent job of hide selection.

I’ve heard some criticism about their horsehide but your jacket looks amazing. I’m guessing the new stuff shows character once broken in.

The shiny, smooth hide is pretty much LLs signature look. It works really great for the coloured hides, IMO.

All subjective and personal taste, of course. I lucked out with this one, and LL has other leathers which are super attractive. Not least the sheepskin (or the veg-tan cow if you can live with the mark-up).

I like the smooth shiny look but you’re right, it’s totally subjective. My 2 LL jackets are from around 2002 and they’re both cowhide. They’re pretty smooth but not too shiny. I love the leather on both. I had been toying around with a new Dominator without the LL logo in cow, but it’s pretty spendy and do I really need the same jacket just with the logo removed? Probably not. Enjoy your beautiful Lightning!
