I like as close to 2.5 as possible. Less, and it doesn't do its job very well, more, and my face gets lost and I look silly.

Something in the area of 2 inches is my preference; a little more or a little less is fine. Most of my wool hats are 2.25 - 2.5. I've also got a stingy straw trilby that's 2 inches and a beaver derby that's 1.25, which is actually more flattering in me than a wide brimmed wool derby I used to own. My broadest brim is a panama I recently came into possession of which is about 3 inches (haven't actually measured), which is probably my most practical hat for sun-blocking purposes but which is a pain to wear in a car and otherwise just cart around when it's not on my head.

Please don't forget to participate in this Poll (and others like it). We do hope to one day correlate these findings with the Edumication Poll ... ;)

Nice idea for a poll.

Like some others said, it depends. I put down 2-1/2 to 2-5/8 because that's what seems right to me for a fedora - and this is the Fedora Lounge after all!

But for a more western-type hat, I like 2-3/4 to 2-7/8 best. I don't roll up the sides, and this gives enough coverage to do the job without becoming a plaything for the wind or requiring a chinstrap or all that.

Agreed with Woodfluter

both in the vote and in the preference for western (thin ribbon) hats. Beyond 3 inches and you just about have to start curling the brim, but not always.

For a dressy snap brimmed affair, definitely something in the 2 1/8 - 2 3/8 range.

For a safari style brim or more casual brimmed hats I'm definitely thinking 2 1/2 or 2 5/8.
