    Akubra Riverina Owners

Obviously very late to this thread. But it appears I am shown on the owners map :) I own two of the fawn colored old original style Riverina. Bought all the makings for a safari conversion but just couldn't pull the trigger. My second is a spare still sitting new in its hatbox :)

My new Akubra Leisure Time in regency fawn

Had the Akubra Riverina not become available for a song, a Leisure Time was going to be mine :) Great hat! --Bob

Latest on Fedora Store in Custer

Andy, Have you handled any of Brad's custom $775 100x hats? Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeew :) I was the Deputy Chief of Supply until LRS was created and that position killed. I retired this past March from CE as one of the Flight Chiefs :) I'm also a retired "mustang" having been both a naval...

    Stetson Gun Club Catera

Concur. In that general style the Akubra Riverina currently being sold for a steal ($47.49 delivered) by one vendor who is discontinuing the line simply can't be beat.

Latest on Fedora Store in Custer

Andy, I was talking to Brad (Eye of the West) the other day when picking up a hat he transformed for me. Mentioning that I was both a retired "mustang" and recent civilian retiree from EAFB he countered that there was an avid fedora enthusiast there that did some business with him. That...

    Akubra Riverina safari-ized

Mike, I learned about the Mr Clean magic eraser, believe it or not, on a vinyl forum. Folks there were using small pieces of the eraser as a stylus cleaner for the needles that play vinyl records. Certainly proper direction and judicious pressure are keys to successful use in that...

    Akubra Riverina safari-ized

Jack, I must admit your hat/pug combo looks great :) I just received the 9 yards of 1" natural cotton twill. I find it too "bright" as is and intend to "antique" it with either tea dying like Mike did or with coffee. I've never done either so I've been doing some googling on line to...

    hat transformation report

Thanks guys. I still have the opportunity to cut down the brim further if necessary. Brad and I are taking it slow as once its cut, its gone. Dimensions are similar to the new Akubra Lightning Ridge if I'm not mistaken too. --Bob

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

As described in a hat transformation report thread, I just got this Resistol Quicksilver cowboy hat back from a local hat maker who has completely changed the hat for me. Wore it back from town this morning :) --Bob

    Akubra Riverina safari-ized

Well for me the Riverina customization is a work in progress. Here's my first hat reflecting my newbie attempt to extend and deepen the side bashes. My head pushes back against the lower part of the modification accounting for the unrefined look sadly. That and I just took off my eyeglasses...

    hat transformation report

In the Akubra Riverina safarized thread I mentioned that I had pulled out a several decade old Resistol Quicksilver cowboy hat with a 7" crown and 4" brim and taken it to Brad Montague, custom hat maker and owner of Eye of the West custom hats. http://www.thelastbestwest.com/index.html...

    steam wand :)

It would indeed be interesting to see what other creative techniques folks here have employed to aid in their bashing / customization efforts. I also took the "bait" and created a new topic about the unusual use of espresso machine steam wands over in the espresso machine forum at coffeegeek...

    steam wand :)

Feltfan, I always clean the nozzle after each use as well as shoot steam into a small pitcher until any water is gone before steaming milk. So these practices obviate any of the concerns save distance you mention. Glad to read that others have used their machines for this purpose :)...
