    List of Reproduction Vintage Clothing

Not really our era, but for completeness I thought I should mention Townsends. They're more 18th Century and Regency era, and all "living history" supplies, not just clothes (so barrels, axes, dishes, eyeglasses, etc). But if you want a cocked hat and breeches, that's the place to go. Also...

    Trying different knots on Neckties.

I really dislike the big knots for some reason, but I'm glad others are experimenting. I wore Windsor knots in the Army the few times we had to wear our "Class A" uniform, but lately I've been 100% four-in-hand. Small and asymmetrical is right up my alley right now. Dude below looks cool (Dr...

The Golden Age of the Streetcar

Memphis still has a street car line downtown (strike that -- Apparently it was reinstated in the 90s, and there was an accident in 2014, and they're planning to put them back into service this year). St. Louis tore all theirs out in the 60s, but just reinstalled a new line which will open to the...

    Button suspenders and messy shirt

What helped, when I had this problem in the past, was to start tucking my undershirt into my underwear. I always thought that was a dumb, nerdy way to do things, but once I started wearing nicer clothes all the time, I found it really made a difference. Something about a loose undershirt makes...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I was always a Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplain fan, but I recently watched a few Harold Lloyd pictures on the Youtube last weekend (including 1922's Grandma's Boy), and I was mighty impressed. I had never gotten around to watching Lloyd for some reason. That's surprising given the fact that...

    Fur felt types?

Off topic, but I once had a salesman tell me that it is impossible to make a navy suit without blending the wool with polyester. I had wanted pure wool, and he just wanted to complete the sale after I found out it was 20% polyester. I wonder if it was a similar issue with the "hats must be...

Did they try to promote Smoking in old movies? they sure smoked a lot

Anything 50% of the population partakes in will be well represented in the movies regardless. But it is known that RJ Reynolds and Phillip Morris and the like paid movie studios to show cool, sexy people smoking, and they also got the US military to go along with it, too, making cigarettes part...

    Pictures of different bashes

I tend to use "bash" as the verb and "crease" as the noun, but I think I might be alone on this board in making that distinction. Not sure where I got it to begin with.

Well, style you can not buy, style must have

One doesn't have style, one has a style. Whether you consider someone else to be stylish usually depends on how close their style is to your style.

    Akubra Advice

I haven't bit the bullet yet on a custom hat, but as I understand it, $150 is about where they start. So going custom is only a small step up from the Akubra range. There's also vintage, the real deal, and you can find some good deals and a lot of them will still be better hats than you can...

First Aero custom jacket, some thoughts and anything to look out for?

That holster is cool. But it's just an extra pocket, essentially, and one you don't need when wearing a jacket with many pockets. Does it snap off? Or is it affixed to your belt? It seems the best method would be to keep your holster, with your stuff in it, wearing it on your belt in the...

    Akubra Advice

I'd assume a tawny fawn Fed will still get you some Indy comments, being brown. I suggest moonstone. I just recently got my moonstone Fed IV and while I never got Indiana Jones comments with my tawny fawn, it just feels more "professional" and less "adventure-y". Though I suppose then you have...

    Suspenders

Historically, suspender buttons were on the outside, for suit pants as well. (Not that it mattered, the waistband was covered up by the vest.) Now that everyone has switched to belts, suspender buttons are often attached to the inside so they won't get in the way of your belt or belt loops...

    Tying neckties

Not according to this article. Or my lying eyes. :) Not trying to get political here, but Trump does look very sloppy for a guy who wears multi-thousand-dollar suits every day.

    Tying neckties

Not only vests, but people wore their pants much higher back in the day. They still wore ties at belt length, but the belt was up on their belly button, so the tie was much shorter.
